For sure, that seems to be something that's always in the back of peoples minds weather they realize it or not. Rolex watches are easy to sell (quick sales typically) and look good on a variety of wrist sizes. Even if money was no object for me my main watches would be a yellow gold Audemars Piguet and GMT Master II. Grand complications would hardly get any wrist time from me, especially while travelling as I'm addicted to water sports.
The day is getting closer where I'll have to make this choice for the steel watches as well. By then though my main purchases will be out of the way, so it won't matter as much. I love Rolex watches as you all know but there's a limit on what I'm willing to spend on something made the way they are. Looking back on the past decade of price evolution, just imagine how it will look in another 10 years. In all fairness though, every brand is subject to this. Patek Philippe tends to under supply the demand on their watches which at times means the AD is no option and paying a premium to get the one you want. Factor in 6 month services and designs that may not be as versatile as one watch for it all and it somehow gives justification to purchase a Rolex in that range.
This has to be how Rolex maintained their popularity and sales numbers over the years. Buying a watch that's going to go up in value, simple to sell anywhere in the world, 4 week factory service turnaround times and some of the most sought after, versatile designs and boom.

For me I would run and never look back with either this: All images from Google. That chunk of change also gets you a VERY nice Patek Philippe or Vacheron Constantin. Oh yeah, or a great Ulysse Nardin. That GMT's a nice piece but I was never a fan of the white gold Rolex watches. I couldn't spend that much on a watch that has absolutely no hand finishing, diamonds or is a limited piece. I'm more the type who would walk out of the AD with several steel models first or something in Yellow gold if not the watches shown above in my post. For the person with everything else I could totally see why they would want that new GMT. Discontinued 42mm ROO Panda

I agree with most of the comments above. The new GMT is a beauty but for that money you can get some VERY special pieces. Breguet and Patek would be my choice.
The GMT belongs in SS.

I'd probably go for something from FP Journe . . .

Patek Philippe Gondolo, or there are a couple of Vacheron Constantin models that I love. For me, though, the choice of AD is very important. For that reason, the Patek would win.
Then again, I can think of four Omega watches right away that I could get for the money, starting with the Z-33!
Wouldn't that just be the most wonderful dilemma: What to do with my 34 grand!?
Cheers, Carl

I love the contrast with the dial and sub dials!

I would take the whitegold GMT, as it would not let me down as an everyday watch. I'm not a billionaire, so it is only in dreams . .
