A fellow watering hole regular gave me this today to get serviced. It belonged to his dad (now passed away) and it has never been serviced. This is probably the oldest Rolex I've ever been in contact with, and while beat up and rusty, there is something cool about it. It's a tiny 34mm but I like it. Odd thing... The clasp is stamped Rolex USA. Would that date it to early 70s? The weird logo on the clasp makes me think it was an employee gift. Sent from my iPhone 5s using Tapatalk Pro

I just learned that back in the day, the Date model was mostly sold on strap and the customer would add the bracelet as an option.
I guess they chose the SS bracelet.

Thats back in the day when a watch was primarily a thing to tell time with and a bracelet or strap was just something simply to hold the watch on your wrist rather than a valuable part of the watch (precious metal ones excluded!).
Its a lovely looking watch, nice and honest with great history. I am really looking forward to seeing it after its service. I would recommend your friend putting it on a leather strap as that jubilee looks very worn.

That'll scrub up nicely with a service mate.

That's a cool watch CHIPWhat did it look like after the service? It reminded me of a watch that I got to see a couple of months ago. Ronnie sadly passed a way about seven years ago. Joanna, his wife, mentioned that she still had his Rolex. She took it out of the box and in the motion of handing it to me, it kicked right up. I had it for a couple of days and it kept great time. Ronnie was the Manager of Bob's on Lemmon Ave. Pictures are not great but here it is:

Roger, funny you should say that because I did suggest that to her, at the time. I actually offered to get it serviced and have the bracelet adjusted for her. She felt it was a little too big for her plus she does not typically wear a watch. She did bring out a very slim Longines Quartz that she said was Ronnie's preferred daily wearer. I took that in to get a new battery and adjusted the bracelet for her. Joanna does wear that one on occasion because it wear more like an actual bracelet. With the DJ, I might suggest she consider wearing it with a nice leather band.
