I've been doing some research on a local watchmaker. During my research, I came upon an example of his watch that was for sale. This morning I decided to buy it and hopefully it will be with me tomorrow. It's a landmark watch and those are the only clues I'm giving.

Goal reached lol. With my profile and post, there are enough clues to point you in the right direction.

Late in the Day but I think Roger is spot on! John Harwood, though! Roger Smith is from Bolton as well I believe so perhaps it's a gently used RW Smith and Adrian forgot to tell us about the lottery win!

It's arrived and here are some quickly taken images. When I have more time, I'll do some better ones. The package. 1928 Harwood Automatic watch. Close up of the movement. The red marks are at the buffers which absorb the shock of the rotor, which swings about 300 degrees. Note there is no crown. The hands are set by turning the outer bezel of the watch. There's a red dot on the dial that indicates the movement is free. You turn the dial in the direction you want to alter the hands, the red dot disappears and the movement is locked. After setting the bezel is turned in the opposite direction until the dot appears and the watch is ready to go. I'm told the main spring is original, to keep the integrity of the watch. Consequently the power reserve is about 6 hours, where it was originally about 12. As for time keeping, I'm assured it's within a few minutes per day. I won't be wearing the watch so this is not a worry of mine.

That's a cool piece of history there. I've read about the bezel winding systems before but never seen one in action. It'd be great if you could do a little video to show it in use for winding and setting the time.
