This is a damn cool watch, nothing like a Sub mind you, it's in a completely different league. For starters it's old as hell, 1st quarter 1957 to be exact-never had a Rolex this old before, so it's got it's little quirks. It's a bit out of COSC specs, although the seller claimed it was recently serviced, but honestly I can live with 10 seconds a day, it doesn't bother me. The date wheel shows a little sliver of the previous date, but I imagine in 1957 when this watch was relatively inexpensive it didn't matter too much. Yeah, it's got patina, but the beauty of this watch is that it hasn't been touched and I don't believe it has been fussed with nor in a collection so that's a plus-I'd much rather have an uncleaned and what appears to be relatively unpolished example than something over polished and pristine that's been through several internet collections. I honestly love the sword hands, you don't know how difficult it was to find one that didn't have the hands replaced, quite difficult. I love the roulette date wheel, freaking awesome, can't wait for a red letter day to stare at it, although I like the black as well. I believe I got a decent deal on the piece, I threw a low ball offer and he more or less took it, this saving me a good grand which I in turn invested in a nice bracelet, wanted a 7206, but prices on these sh*tty pieces of tin have gone through the roof lately, people are asking ridiculous prices, upwards of 1500 for even a stretched out example, sorry, too much to pay, that and they look better on a jubilee I think. Size comparison to a 40mm Sub the Datejust holds its. Own, although anything smaller I don't this I'd like to wear. And last but not least, the bloody crown lines up! Who could ask for more. A rare bird this 6605, I love it.

Well played, Steve! You're the king of finding these vintage Rolex watches. In your shoes I would have done the exact same. You already know how I feel about having an Oyster without a bracelet (other than Chip's Yacht-Master). The seller must have known the value is significantly less without it included for most potential buyers. Those two make a nice pair, totally different giving you the best of both worlds.

Agreed Rommel - those two make a nice pair. Steve - are those Dauphine or Sword hands?

The bracelet is a very nice compliment to the watch.

Now the watch is complete in my eyes! You can always put the strap on if you get bored but that might take a while!

Thanks guys, I still like the strap a lot as well so I'll be switching back and forth from time to time.

It's a Datejust 6605 1st qtr 1957, it appears to still have some chamfer left. I'm stoked. Its a beauty. Congrats!!

Jubilee had arrived Nicko Nice pick up on both the 6605 head and folded Jubilee! I know from a recent experience that an original (50's) 7206 bracelet with 58 ends sold for $4500 in good condition. I know where theres one from 1963 thats going for $3500
