Just saw this on Timeless website. It is a LE from a few years ago. Always disappointed I never was able to get one. It is gorgeous. The LE model I just bought because this is one LE I had missed out on. Maybe, just maybe....
I would have 2 GS quartz LE models. I have been looking at getting the black dial version of my white dial model, but this would be even better. Just gotta check the finances. I just sold my Speedy, so gotta come up with a bit more. This would round out my GS quartz collection beautifully!

"The Grand Seiko Self Dater 1964 SBGV011 is the re-edition, 50 years later, of a historical Grand Seiko model and, on the occasion of Grand Seiko 's general introduction to the European market, reveals SEIKO 's will to prove that a three hand quartz operated timepiece can be luxury as well." The lug design as well as the unusual "anthracite" dial are the two things that really get to me. it comes with both black leather strap and ss bracelet, IMO the leather strap really makes it. Normally, my rule is not to buy a watch if I can't see it IRL first, but I think that in this case I might just make an exception.

I can tell you that I've seen that model in person, and it's absolutely stunning. They command high prices but they are just about worth it. If you want it, let me know and I'll talk to Dan about it.

To me, this is the ultimate GS. I have always liked it better than any other, including all the Hi-Beats, Autos and Spring Drives. And I have seen them from time-to-time on various websites pre-owned. But not until I saw this on Timeless did I really think about it seriously. No hesitation in buying from them. It is one watch that I just kind of put in the back of my mind. Anyway, let's see.
Cheers, Carl

I was at the GS AD on Wednesday evening, and was very tempted to buy the quartz model with the black dial they have, same case as my white dial. I am very glad now that I didn't get it.

You do know this is a smaller watch, right? Oh, yes, 37.2mm to be exact. Looks like it wears a bit larger, though, because of those bigger lugs. But I love the smaller watches anyway. The lugs are part of the heritage which goes back to '64 self dater (which was actually an automatic).

It does wear larger. Steve b00st4ddicted had the silver dial version, and it does wear a bit larger. More like a 39.

IMHO that watch belongs on strap.

They even made a special crown for this LE, to match the 1964 crown apparently. Very generous size crown for a quartz watch. And true to the original case, the crystal is quite domed as well, although it's sapphire coated inside now instead of acrylic.

It's very similar to my 037, but Quartz. Box type sapphire.

IMHO that watch belongs on strap. I totally agree . Apparently, although the ad at Timeless says it comes only with the bracelet, they do have a strap. When the watch was first introduced, it came on the strap and also had the stainless steel bracelet included. And I think if it has to be on a bracelet, the three-link without the polished small center links would look a lot better. The clasp is also of a vintage style, or so I read, so that is more important to me than the actual strap, which I can always get later. Usually I am a bracelet guy, but in this case I don't care for the looks on a bracelet at all.
