Came across these old photos tonight. From about 2010, with my first Rolex Explorer 1. This is really the only watch, of many, that I have owned that I regret selling. The photos reinforce the fact that the Explorer 1 is the watch I should be getting: It has occurred to me many times, that I could get a mint condition pre-owned 36mm model. But somehow, it wouldn't be the same, as it would not be my old watch. And they are getting pricey as well. And the new 39mm model gives me the same feeling when I have it on my wrist anyway.

carl you totally need to get the new 39mm version. That watch seems ideal for you. If it's the only one you truly regret that has to be a sign of sorts.

I agree Rommel. The 36 was flipped for a reason.

Carl, I'd buy mint pre-owned and save a whole lot of money. carl I would second that statement by CHIP. There are a lost of great dealers out there that I, and others, know of. That said are there threads for recommended newer watch and vintage watch dealers threads somewhere we could add to CHIP?

However, the logistics of buying from the U.S., from an AD who I don't already know, then shipping to Canada. Not to mention the taxes and customs fees I would have to pay. Plus the low Canadian Dollar now works in my favour. I would have to get a discount of 30-40% to be able to make it worthwhile.
The only place I would ever consider buying from is Timeless Luxury Watches, and unfortunately they don't carry Rolex.
Cheers, Carl

Well, I have been thinking about Rolex all weekend. Especially after seeing the BLRO. I kept going over all the pics and reviews of the models that interest me most: SD43, 114060, BLRO and Explorer I. In the end, the only one I could see really working for me is the Explorer I. Ever since I sold my 36mm model, I have longed to have it back. I almost went for pre-owned a couple of times (36mm model). However, after trying on the newer 39mm model so many times over the past couple of years, and flipping other models, I came to the conclusion that I will never rest until I once again have an Explorer I on my wrist. As far as aesthetics, it still greatly appeals to me, and the one I visualize as being most suited to both my lifestyle and personality. So, I went back to this thread which I started last year, and it totally reaffirmed my feelings for this model. My old 36mm. To me, this pic says it all:
Cheers, Carl

I must say, I do like the Expl I a lot - very subtle but stylish. I’ve still never tried one on, but I think I’d totally love the 39mm version.
So, did you buy one yet? I can’t be sure from your post.

If not, they are not as difficult to get as some other ss models.

Well, I guess it comes as no surprise! The Explorer was still at the AD this morning, I had phoned to get them to put it aside. As I arrived, there was another client who was looking for one. I guess my timing was spot on. There is not much else to say, except that this watch is perfect. My BB36 was an excellent watch as well, but I realized the whole time I had it that I was compromising myself. So, I spent the entire weekend looking at reviews and photos (again) about this model and also the SD43 and the BLRO. Oh, and the 114060. Made my decision about midnight, and hardly slept a wink. I have been very fortunate lately to have acquired some amazing watches, but this one stirs my emotions most. I feel like an old friend has returned! This was my previous Explorer 1, 36mm, sold in 2005. Pics taken by my friend Ian, who I still miss a lot: And some pics I took today. I can't say these are great, but they will do for now: Between this Explorer and my Railmaster, I can't honestly say which one would be my "If I could have only one watch....".
