When I saw a post on another forum today - by a member who showed his Rolex Explorer I 39mm and Submariner 114060 no date side-by-side - I realized how fortunate I am to have found this Tudor BB36. If I ever decide to sell it, I would have to get both these Rolex models to replace it.
I love the Explorer I as it has no movable bezel, and is a simple, sporty watch. I love the Sub 114060 because I like the dial better than the Explorer I. And it has that beautifully operating crown assembly that is not to be beat. But, after owning the Tudor for some time, I really do prefer the Snowflake hour hand over the Mercedes hands of the Rolex. And, of course, for me the 36mm size is ideal. And the crown operation is also flawless.
Tudor is not Rolex. I always said I would not buy a watch just because it's a Rolex. And the Tudor has all of the attributes and craftsmanship of the Rolex pieces which are most important to me.
To put it another way, and this also occurred to me when I saw the photo of the two Rolex models together, that if I sold my Tudor BB36 in favor of Rolex, it would cost me $16,000 for the two pieces that would replace my Tudor. And that is if I would be lucky enough to get them with tax included, which is not likely considering the market for this type of Rolex at this time. With tax, I would be looking at $18,000. I'm not saying that would never happen, but having the Tudor has allowed me to move on to other interests in the Rolex family. And for that I am very thankful.
I am in no way saying that those two Rolex watches are not worth every cent. I still drool over both of them whenever I see them. If I could honestly say that I would be even marginally happier with both of them than my Tudor, I would likely find a way for that to happen. And most of you know me well enough by now to know the truth in that. Although, as I approach the ripe old age of 70, I like to think that I am getting a bit wiser . Or maybe not!
Just thought I would share my thoughts with all of you. And, for anyone who is interested, I paid $3000.00CAD for my Tudor BB36 tax included, At the current rate of exchange, about $2365USD.
Cheers,
Carl
