The following pics, all from the Rolex website, best represent my love of this watch. The first two, in particular, the sublime Triplock crown mechanism, which must the be smoothest and most secure to be had: Many other reasons to appreciate this beauty. As I said in another thread, the fact that so many other brands try to emulate the 114060 in some form, or almost it's entirety, only endears me more to the watch. One of those iconic pieces that, no matter how many people own the model, or that it may just be a Rolex Sub to many, does not take away the appeal for me. It escapes me why it has taken me so long to gain this much appreciation of the model. I truly believe, though, that this delay in acquiring one should it happen, will allow me to appreciate it even more. Saying that the crown mechanism and it's smoothness and secure operation is the no.1 reason for it to be a choice, is saying a lot. And the fact that it is the only watch in this category that would be a step above my Tudor Black Bay 36 says a lot about the Tudor! But it can't be denied, at least by me, that the crown mechanism, the bracelet and the quality of the stainless steel made in Rolex's own foundry, do upstage the BB36 IMO. I find, though, that I like the BB36 even better than my Explorer I 36mm which I regretted selling, and even the new Explorer I. I can truly understand why Rommel, although he has now got the GMT, still wants a 114060 badly. There is quite simply no other diver, or watch with movable bezel, like it. The new Deepsea 43mm is outstanding. So is the GMT Master II. It will really be interesting to see if I can be swayed by either of those two (if I ever get to see either one, they are so rare), to get one or the other over the 114060. Hopefully, I will get the chance to find out! Cheers, Carl

I've always liked the ND Subs. After I get the BLNR, I don't know what I'll set my sights on next. The WG DD with blue dial and RG YM are at the top of my list, but not within budget. Most likely I'll try to get a look at the new green dial 3 Day Radiomir 1940 case Panerai. If that feels like a winner, I might flip the 422 for it and add cash.
The great thing about the Rolex ND Subs is they are not hard to find so you should be able to get a discount or buy LNIB and not lose any or much on the flip if it doesn't end up being a keeper.

The Submariner's a must own in my opinion! The design, the history behind it, so much more! Can't wait to add one to my collection!

Great pair with the GMT. Many say that there are lots of similarities, too similar, but IMO there a a few major differences which set the two models apart. I can 100% see why you could want to own both. I am very pleased that, after a few years, I have become way more accepting of the ceramic bezels. My fears of banging the watch against a hard/sharp object have almost disappeared. Time to move on.

Indeed! I too was amazed at how the subtle differences to most were much bigger to me. Hands down my two favourite watches!
Now that I finally own a piece with a ceramic bezel I couldn't be happier!! The updates over all make the watches far better in my opinion. So excited for a Submariner!

I sense a collection refresh is upon us. Should we start a pool to see who can guess the closest to the aquisition date?

I sense a collection refresh is upon us. Should we start a pool to see who can guess the closest to the aquisition date? Or, perhaps who will get the Sub first, Rommel or I? And it's not even a work day, yet I have strapped on my Tudor BB36 already, for Monday evening. For a change, I am thinking long and hard about the 114060. If I did go for it, either it or the BB36 will get most of the wrist time, but I doubt that I could divide the wrist time evenly between the two. Anyway, good thing I am not right now in the position to get the Sub.

Haha as much as I want to be first there's a very good chance I won't be. I want to try make it happen ASAP though, no doubt. I love the added motivation a new Rolex gives me, even if it takes me a while to get there without flipping.
The GMT is here to stay. Had my 5 digit reference Rolex been better made (hated those hollow links) I may have kept it.
The good news is there's nothing else I want out there as much as the Submariner (that I don't already own). This means I won't get distracted and end up buying something for a fraction of the price I'll just end up selling for a loss or trading in anyway.
