Usually during Basel 2018 it takes me at least a few days to start paying less attention to the hype of the forums, settle in and take a thorough look at each and every model. After cocktails and wine at dinner last night, I was having a restless sleep. At 3am, for some odd reason the GMT-Master II Oystersteel & Everose Gold (Root Beer) popped into my head. This is a model I was largely ignoring, because two-tone watches are not usually thing. But seeing the new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M models, and the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight, all that changed for me. Anyway, I got up and started doing some research. I found a few excellent photos and a rave review by Time & Tide of Australia, one of my very favorites for reviews. I love the Caramel/Black (Root Beer) bezel with the gold inserts. And the Everose gold accents on the case and bracelet are just enough, making the bezel and dial more of a focal point. I think all Everose case and bracelet would detract from the overall look. Probably, I was too busy being disappointed that Rolex had changed the dial on the Pepsi to blue, and introduced a steel model with Jubilee bracelet. Personally, I was quite happy with the Pepsi white gold, and even though I would probably never own one, it gave the model an exclusivity which I really appreciated. While I always admired it, I know that the color combination would not be the one for me. My original vote for favorite Basel 2018 model was the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, but with this TT Root Beer GMT it is now no.2 on my list. Here is an excellent video as well, done by Time & Tide: Thanks for looking. Carl

I actually like that one. More than I thought I would!
And I liked the seamaster less than I thought I would.

Not being a TT fan, I think I’d like it on the Oysterflex. The bezel is beautiful.

I’m sure Robb does though. I’m a bit bummed, I spent all days in meetings and I didn’t get to walk around and look. I missed about 90 percent of the displays! It’s HUGE. Three stories, three buildings. Some of the displays are humongous, and several stories high. Others, had just a chair and a table.

Hate it when this happens! Cannot get this watch off my mind. And, what is even worse, I am starting to really like the Everose version as well. Here are a couple of pics of both versions: I wonder how long the waitlist will be for the TT with Everose? I often told myself that I would never go on a waitlist, but I don't know if I will be able to stop myself . Odd that I would seem to like the Everose so much. I thought the case and bracelet would take attention off the bezel and dial, but I don't get that when I look at the watch. Mind you, maybe in real life I will think differently. Although the Day-Date 40 in all Everose didn't phase me. Mind you the $26,000 difference in price could be a huge deciding factor!

The everrose is my preferred option but like you I’d want to see it in person to see if it feels like too much gold. The bezel and dial seem to tone it down some in photos.

I really wonder if I am even going to be able to see either one in real life! I think it's the black in the bezel and the black dial. If the dial was another color, the Everose might take over more. That's what I get when I look at it. I have always found black against Everose to be stunning, like the YM that Chip has with the Oysterflex. The more black, the better the Everose looks IMO.

Yeah, that RG YM is the bomb and still on my list as a “retirement watch” if I can’t pull it off sooner.

Either one of these are awesome pieces but to make them truly stunning, I feel that they really need a brown sunburst dial.

I think it would look nicer with a single color, caramel or mocha or whatever color you want to call it, bezel. Kind of like the 16610LN.

I can't believe how much I like that. It's certainly changed my mind on the next Rolex I would like to have.

I don’t like TT a lot but this one works.
Perhaps the darker tone of the Everose makes the Watch look less in your face and a bit more subtle, and that works for me.

I feel the same about the YM in TT Everose, especially the version that has the same dial as my 116655. It actually looks great IRL.
