Just read a post from someone in the FB Steinhart group that said "I have read articles cautioning against hand-winding the ETA 2824-2 movement". He elected to "shake" it to life. I'm really a novice after all these years but can not fathom a current ETA production that can't be hand wound. I don't think I've ever read any similar articles and if I had I would stay away from the movements.
Any thoughts?

The 2824 is a work horse. I have no worries about it at all.

I agree with Roger. Next to the movement in the three hand Rolex, the 2824 and 2892 are probably the most reliable movements out there.

They say any competent watchmaker can service it too. Just in case. That's a big plus. And I read the Eterna Cal. 39 has many interchangeable parts with the ETA. Again a plus for service.
