Does anyone know what RSC charges to polish a case. I know when you get a service, they include a polish. Just wondering how much a polish is by itself. Thanks!

To answer the question before it's asked...no I didn't scratch up the Explorer II. I'm looking on the Sales Forums and got to wondering how much a "freshen up" would cost if the movement doesn't need servicing.

Holy smokes! $225 clams. At that price, you might as well wait until it needs service. Thanks Mav!

And even if the watch was serviced yesterday, if it was not by them, they will want to service it. They really are watch Nazi, but they do great work and are very friendly, at least at Dallas RSC.

Hummm, not sure if they do just that Sam, but Mav could be right. $225 is sily to pay just to wash off some cutties.

That is from a post I recently read and un-confirmed. I could call tomorrow. I believe they usually want to do a full service. The bracelet can be done with the right materials but I would not try the case since only Rolex can duplicate the finish. =) maverick

Thanks Mav! I'll give RSC Dallas a call tomorrow and see what they say. I've touched up my EXPII bracelet no problem, but I wouldn't even fathom touching the case.

Here's a reponse by Mr Rolex at TZ, which gives an insight just how Rolex refinish there watches to come back as new
Rolex service centres use exactly the same case finishing machines as are used in the case making division of the company.
Matt surfaces are finished by a graining machine and the shiny ones are done by a lapping machine. The watch is held in a jig and the machine moves in a programmed fashion over only the areas it must finish. And that is the reason they come back looking like a new watch, because these are the same machines used to put the finish on a new watch. .
i hadn't realised they used a jig and though it was purely down to a lifetime skill !!

Our local AD has the machines in house. Now I know why their watch maker was so reluctant to polish up a Panerai!

Well....Mav was right. I just called RSC and they said $180-250 for a case/bracelet refinish. At that price, it's pretty dumb not to just pay another $200 and have a full blown service done.

Yeah, I agree with that. At that price may as well get a new crystal and gaskets, and service.

I think they charge so much because (and I'm guessing here folks) they likely have to disassemble the watch to do it propery.
I would think they'd have to (obviously) remove the bracelet, but also the bezel, bezel insert (if applicable), and the crystal (which would entail removing the movement and crown(s)).
Otherwise, I'd guess you're doing a half-ar$ed job at getting all those hard-to-reach places.
