Hi Folks.
This has been an exceptional day for me. Last week I won an Omega dialled, Regina movement pocket watch from eBay for $33!
The pictures were very blurry and it was hard to tell the condition of the watch other than the seller noted some hairline cracks in the dial and that it was working and that it was NOT an Omega!
Well, some research found out it is indeed an Omega! They purchased the Regina Swiss watch company in 1911 and used the Regina name for watches sold, as far as my research tells me, exclusively in Canada, mainly for the railroads. The movements though marked Regina carry the Omega date code in the serial number and the age can be found on Omega's website. This movement was made around 1916.
The watches were cased in Canada with American Watch Co. Cases, mine is Nickel Silver or German Silver as it is often referred to. Unusually the dial reads "Omega" and looking at the dial I would say it was original to the watch, not a replacement. Often the dials were marked, along with the movement, "Regina" or the name of a Jeweller that was selling them
This is a 7 jewel adjusted to 2 positions movement, nicely finished I think and in the brief time I have had it running, appears to be keeping good time and ticking away nicely.
The watch was dull when I got it so I got my trusty Sunshine polishing cloth out and buffed it up to take the dullness and not the scratches away as I love the patina. It shocked me how well it came up! The crystal is in excellent order and apart from the cracks the dial also. I removed a few spots of dust thats all.
The hands have the most gorgeous blueing on them and are lustrous and shiny.
I am actually in some shock at how good this eBay win is. So much better than the images on eBay and if the seller had made better images and did a small amount of research he would I think have been able to charge a great deal more than he got for it!
Below are a lot of pictures of it to give an idea I hope of how beautiful this pocket watch is, I am ecstatic! Can't wait for Carl to see it on Sunday!
As you can see, the seller packed it really well!
I think this is what you could call an "honest" watch. It shows its age and imperfections and for me they only add to owning vintage pieces.
Now for a few movement shots, the last shows the case back as well.
Here are the marking for Regina Watch company..
Sans crystal and bezel. Though there are chips around the edge you cannot see them with the crystal on. I love the shine of the dial and check out those gorgeous blued hands. All I did with this image was sharpen it up a bit. The colours are accurate.
Winding stem details..
A close-up of the Omega symbol and script..
And finally it resting in the winters light..
Thanks for looking, I am over the moon with this one!
