Ah, is it a 6538, that seems to be on the man with a golden gun with a quick internet search.

Let's just agree that it's a dusty old sub with plenty of scratches and lume that now longer works. Some people like that sort of thing from what I've heard.

Great choice, Steve! No wonder you did away with modern pieces. So much history and appeal to that 6538.

I did do a bit of shopping at Crown and Buckle in preparation of its arrival. I have decided to under strap it by 2mm so these are actually 18mm Natos. It will of course come with a nice rivet and I've got a beautiful Horween that I will use but I just love the simplicity of these Natos. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oh boy Steve. I am really looking forward to seeing this one. I have been watching a lot of the Hodinkee videos and there is one in particular that you might like to watch! I have seen a number of pictures of these lovely old subs on Horween or old military bag leather straps and they just look amazing! Hodinkee actually do a line of straps themselves which look great though they never seem to be in stock! shop.hodinkee.com/collections/italy-straps

Grahame was wearing a white gold sub while showing the older ones. Neat.

Thanks guys, here's the 1680 I sold but I kept the Horween strap, the straps aren't cheap, I think this one cost me about $100 used but they can run twice that much new. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great thing with the Horween cordovan, in fact any cordovan is that they last way longer than normal leather straps and age beautifully, that looks wonderful on the sub.

Oh man, I can feel the excitement! Vintage Rolex watches are SO interesting. That was an excellent video by the way, Ian Not shocking though as those folks produce some very informative and entertaining watch videos. Steve, I hope it gets there very soon!

It's amazing how much variety exists within the Submariner line alone! Love the history behind them and the feeling they provide for watch lovers. Just reading about them can be rather interesting considering how it all started. My collection of Rolex anchors symbolizes my passion for the history of the Rolex dive watch:
