Well said, everyone! A bit late coming into this thread, but it did really ring a bell with me. It took me years to get my first vintage watch, but it was worth the wait to get my '63 Seamaster. I do see a vintage military type watch in my future, so many of the companies made them around WWII. Again, best if the dial and all the other components are left untouched. I think vintage is the reason I keep coming back to the Tutima Flieger Chronograph. Although the one I am looking at is not vintage, it is one of the best reproductions of a vintage piece I have seen. The last true vintage I saw for sale was very expensive. Sadly, even the reproduction model is now out of production. Maybe having the '63 Seamaster is also why I am having a hard time finding exactly which watch will be my next. I'm looking at everything that will be within the realm of possibility, but having a hard time finding one that really excites me. The Omega Speedmaster, though, is a wonderful piece, and a wonderful connection with the past, both historically and personally. Great thread! Carl

Joining this thread late but loving the conversation - you are all making me wonder now if I should even contemplate selling my grandfathers watch - thinking about all the golf courses it must have seen since the early 1900's and that's only a few of the many places it must have witnessed!

Welcome to WWF and NO, don't sell a family watch. I have my great grandfather's pocket watch and rarely wear it, but I did have it serviced and it's ready to hand down to the next generation. Even if not worn, it should be kept and passed along as part of the family heritage.

Welcome Sunjay, I agree completely with Roger, don't sell a family watch. It contains so much history and is an heirloom that once gone can never be got back! It looks like a lovely trench watch, care to show us more pictures? If it needs a service we have a member here who is a wonderful Watchmaker with great experience in servicing vintage pieces.. wristwatchforums.proboards.com/user/325

Hello Roger and Ian, Thanks for welcoming me and for your valuable comments. I' m pretty sure it does need a service, as it only seems to work for a short while after winding and then stops. Who and where is the watchmaker member located please? Here's another photo for your viewing pleasure

sunjay - It would be good to know where you are located to see if we know of a watchmaker near you that we can recommend. We have many active members across the US, Canada, UK, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and a few other places that I'm forgetting at the moment.

Sunjay, can you take a larger picture of the watch open showing the movement and hallmarks, that would be really helpful as the one you show is too small to see the marks properly, thanks.

Thank you Ian and Roger, I'm British but live in southern California 2 hours north of LA. I'm including some more shots - found it a bit tricky trying to take good close up pics of a reflective object! Hopefully you can see the details better here.

Oh no, Sunjay. That one is NOT for sale!!!The only thing you'll get for it is money. The significance, history and connection is worth far more.

Hi Sunjay - I couldn't read any of the markings, even after downloading the images and trying to "sharpen" the photos and make exposure adjustments. If you have a friend with an iPhone and can take higher resolution photos and upload them with Photobucket or some similar app, that will go a long way in helping us help you. That said, since you are in the US, there are many options for you as far as independent watchmakers to have your watch evaluated: www.dstimeservice.com (CA) www.timecareinc.com (FL) internationalwatchworks.com (NC) And I'm sure that there are many more, but these are just a few I've seen recommended often in the past. I haven't used any of them myself.

Hi Roger, Thanks for the info and trying to view the marks and I apologise that the photos are not clear enough. I'm using my dads i-Pad and then reduced the file size suitable for web/email. Maybe I'll try sending you a larger file. I normally use my iPhone but I have no cell service here in the UK and therefore no way of up loading pics from it. SunJay
