Today was to be the day I look at Breitlings: the new Aerospace Evo, and the Avenger II GMT. My Breitling AD only had the GMT in stock, as the Evo watches get taken as soon as they arrive. Nevertheless, I tried on the previous generation and was very impressed. Also tried the GMT and also impressed. While I was there, I decided to take a look at all of their watches. I had forgotten that they recently started carrying Tutima, a German brand since 1927, and one I have also been interested in. I have not seen a Tutima Classic Flieger Chronograph 1941 for a couple of years, and thought they had been discontinued. But there it was, with a beautiful steel bracelet. The Classic Flieger Chronograph 1941 783-02, being the only Tutima model that has a manual wind, is the one that interests me most. I also like a watch with history, and this does not disappoint. It has the old school hands with the coin-edge bezel - very vintage. The movement is a modified Valjoux 7750, modified to a self wind, the 7760. Specs: Hand-winding modified Valjoux Caliber 7760. 17 jewels. Chronograph with 30-minute and 60-second counters, subsidiary seconds. Satin-finished stainless steel case. Water-resistant to 10 bar. Bidirectionally rotating bezel with red reference marker. Domed sapphire crystal, anti-reflective on the inside. Leather strap. SuperLumiNova luminous compound. Diameter: 38.5 mm Height: 14.8 mm This AD is also the local AD who services Tutima watches. And where I bought my second Breitling, a SuperOcean, which I had from 1997-2007. Some pics from my visit: Sorry for poor quality case back photo: Photos from catalogue, available with leather strap or steel bracelet:

I've always admired the hand style that they use. Very unique and beautiful. I also like the coin edge bezel and bracelet on that one. I it just me, or does the crown seem out of proportion (too large) on this one?

I it just me, or does the crown seem out of proportion (too large) on this one? I have read some reviews about this watch, and it seems to be one of those things that people really like or it puts them off. Hanhart also made a very similar version of this watch, which has the same size crown. I can't seem to find any reference to the crown. I just know that other Flieger styles have rather large crowns, although admittedly not the same proportion as this one, so that pilots can easily use the crown with gloves on. I like the crown myself. Apart from being practical, gives it a very unique look. Here's a photo, taken from the Tutima catalogue I got, of the original developed in 1939/40: Cheers, Carl

I liked the look of it the first time i saw it with you. I do though much prefer it on a nice thick riveted leather strap, something like a Gunny strap. The bracelet for me takes away from that lovely bezel.

carl - the reasoning for the larger crown makes a lot of sense and as always, the bottom line on all the watches we end up buying is DO THEY MAKE YOU SMILE!

carl - the reasoning for the larger crown makes a lot of sense and as always, the bottom line on all the watches we end up buying is DO THEY MAKE YOU SMILE! Yep, that's what it's all about. And, I have to say, this one did make me smile . Not really looking for a chronograph, or a rotating bezel. However, sometimes you see a watch and you like it so much that those things are not longer an issue at all. Such was the case with my Speedmaster, and also this one. I have to say, that after trying on the Aerospace Evo yesterday, albeit the previous model, I was very impressed. However, I must admit that it did not make me smile. I was at the Omega Boutique after, and I tried on the Z-33, and it did make me smile! It is, to me, and enormous watch, and it just ridiculous how thick it is. And it has not two, but 4, push-pieces! On the Aerospace everything is operated by the crown. Yet, if I were to get one of the two, the Z-33 would be my choice. Cheers, Carl

That is right, from what I have seen on this and a few other watches. Until you mentioned "Cathedral hands", I had forgotten how these hands are referred to. It's one thing I really love about this watch. Very ornate, and add tremendously to the vintage effect. That's one reason I like this watch so much. When I put it on, I feel like I do when putting on my '63 Seamaster. Cheers, Carl

I saw their factory when I visited Glashütte. Like all the others, it was really just a big house. (ALS and GO excluded) Attachments:

It's good to see you exploring all options for this big choice about to be made, Carl! Things do seem to be narrowing down slowly but surely as you try on all of the different watches. Now that the Aerospace is somewhat eliminated from the race things got a bit easier.

Almost 7 years ago! When I started this thread in Feb 2014, it was the first time I had considered the Tutima Flieger 1941! CHIP this is the thread that includes your pics of your visit to Germany and Tutima!

That's pretty cool carl It makes me want to go back also and see what watches I've considered enough over the years to start a thread about and bought (or should buy).
