Very much enjoying wearing this watch. it has wonderful wrist presence and like all Timex's I have found has a real honesty about it. I love how they have angled the numbers on the date window. The window widens as it goes towards the edge of the dial, so do the numbers! I can think of watches cost thousands more that don't pay that amount of attention to detail!

Congratulations, Ian! I'm so glad it arrived today. It's a nice watch and that picture you posted above shows me why you wanted this piece. Enjoy in the best of health

Not even a decent pair of socks This item has a nice history and there's no doubt in my mind it will be worth more some day too. Of course the reason for purchasing it was the joy of ownership! It's incredible what a bit of research can do for a watch collection. Watches will always be my favourite things to spend money on!

I think you hit the nail on the head Rommel. Research is all.. Having said that with watches like my Fellow Chronograph its a leap of faith as so little is known about the brand.. Make that nothing! It must be the stealthiest of stealth watches, Its the Scarlett Pimpernel of watches!

I guess all that matters is the fact it has a nice design and appeals to you. Once all of these arrive you do realize you need to post an updated picture in the state of your collection topic! It's going to look so cool with all of these vintage pieces together. You achieved a lot in a short time with this too. Chronograph, precious metal piece and many others. It must feel nice to have a hobby like this where you're essentially having a blast, living a dream and investing. To each their own but of all the things out there to spend money on, watches will always be one of the better things if purchased right. It represents a big part of history that almost faded away during the quartz boom. Be it a Rolex or a G-Shock, I truly enjoy the heck out of them. Speaking of G-Shocks, went for my weekly swim today and wore the Riseman as always.

I think I am going to have to get a wider angle lens for the updated collection shot! Great thing is most of what I have at the most costs a few hundred but in the main less than that and it shows you can have a varied and interesting collection and not spend a fortune. If I sold the lot including the AK I probably would still not have enough for a new sub!
G-Shocks I think are an essential. I am glad I have one and love the following they have. I always look at things like this in terms of how much would I waste down the pub or smoking, All of that costs a fortune and at the end of it you've got a dodgy liver and lungs and would have spent even more than I have spent in my life on watches.
I guess as well its my upbringing. We did not have a lot so things were hard won and when got we kept them and look after them.

That makes two of us. I was never into the party scene as much as some people I grew up with. For some reason I always got more joy out of owning things than indulging in activities that gave me nothing to appreciate after. No doubt about there being things worse than those to spend money on. My Riseman has a bad sensor so now the cool features don't work anymore. It's basically a regular G-Shock now and does the job at the pool. You should see what the chlorine did to all of my board shorts. It can be harsh over time and I typically leave my metal watches at home and just used that there. Watch prices now are totally insane. Just a decade ago those pieces could be found for A LOT less than what they go for now. Back then for $20,000.00 CAD you could have 4 Rolexes, bought from local sellers downtown. Oh how I miss the days where this was the case. $20,000.00 now gets you two, if you're lucky... Anyone can earn money and just go spend it on something. This appreciation for the story behind it makes the connection a lot stronger. You could have your own exhibit in a watch museum!

Thats the double edged sword called the internet eh! I remember watching something and the dealer said a 1960's speedmaster in the early 90's would go for around $500 and Orange hand Explorer the same. I really think when the internet took off so did watch collecting.
Watching the Italian collector on one of the Hodinkee videos he said he bought his first all gold Rolex from a secondhand store for $800!

Haha yeah, I remember that clip. The internet did change A LOT of things. People could invest 10 - 15 minutes and open up to a worldwide audience of potential buyers vs relying on the local market for a sale. Watch forums got more people addicted and it made things clear what was worth getting. Had it not been for the internet I never would have gotten started collecting accessories.
My reasons for that were a lot like yours. Things I saw as historically significant, especially as times changed and they got phased out. Just having them in my safe and being able to take them out when ever to take a trip down memory lane was worth it.

Congrats Ian for getting Timex Vintage Watch. Timex was also my first watch, and really it looks like vintage watch.
