Fantastic, it just arrived today from my good friends at HQ Milton in San Francisco, the only place that will put up with my indecisiveness and smile. I recommend if you want to feed you addiction then pay them a visit. This is a Mark 4 1970 IV 2.6 million serial Red 1680 Submariner which was purchased from the original owner. No box or papers but seeing as how it's a one owner each it doesn't really matter to me. The watch comes with what I feel is the most awesome looking Mark 1 fat font insert I have ever seen, it has a slightly bluish grey tint to it and it's known as the kissing 4 since there is no gap between the 4 and 0 and the are actually touching each other. The dial is flawless, the correct Mk 4 and simply stunning. A seriously dark Café au Lait color and plots and hands perfectly matched. The case is thick and appears to have not seen a polishing wheel ever and if it did it was once and a long time ago. The case is actually shiny from wear buy not polished. I have it on a Cordovan strap at the moment since the bracelet has 11 links and it too big for my wrist. The bracelet was purchased from Rolex USA back in the late 70s from the original owner and as far as I'm concerned is original to the watch since it was a factory service replacement. I will get it sized and wear it on the watch. Gents (and ladies) this is it, it feels like the watch I have always been looking for but never quite found in a Submariner, the rest have always fallen short for one reason or another. I am in love with this Sub. More pics to follow but I snapped a few so I could share with you,. Enjoy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glad it arrived much faster than the return went back. I think you have a keeper there for sure. The dial and insert on that one are great!
I know you said you weren't planning on replacing the pearl, but the OCD side of me couldn't take looking at the empty hole. But then again, it's probably why I can't do vintage yet.

Thanks Roger, yeah, shipped on Thursday and arrived Sunday delivered Monday, unbelievably fast this way. As for the pearl, I love the empty hole, totally cool with it and prefer it to a new pearl. Now, if I could find a reasonably prices vintage one–which I won't–then I'd put it on but really they are difficult to source and when you do they are very expensive, 150–200 bucks is not uncommon. I have OCD but not for pearls.

Oh Steve, that one is very very special indeed. I love that it's a one owner from new, that makes a lot of difference with something as special as this. I am with you on your thoughts about the bracelet as well. The case has perfect patina and that dial is one of the best I have seen for that type the hands match perfectly, it's just got it all and ticks every box I feel that you have wanted ticking having witnessed your journey to getting this watch.
The tritium has that perfect rich custard yellow that collectors ache over in getting.
I actually love it on the cordovan and that's the beauty of a vintage Sub, it looks great on whatever strap you put on it and you can have a lot of fun with that and keep things really interesting having different looks, can't wait to see it on that red NATO you have for it as well.
I will stick my neck out here and say this is the one for you. I think people who don't know what vintage is about might not have understood your journey with this but vintage is a very different thing to new, the personality of the watch, the history it has collected over the years is palpable I feel and to vintage nuts like us is almost as important as the watch itself.
It really is metaphysical in some respects and I know that will raise a few eyebrows but I know you know what I mean and that is what I am basing my thoughts on.
This watch is not only beautiful and desirable as an object it has the right "feeling" about it as well to me.
Congratulations Steve, polish off the camera, there are lots of pictures to take in all it's strap permutations and I would love to see a shot of the case back.
Seeing your post today has made my week!

Beautiful, Steve. Enjoy it. Are you certain you don't want me to look for a replacement vintage pearl for it, for you?

Thanks everyone for the kind words and Ian, I'll get the camera out soon and get some better pictures. I'll throw the Natos on and snap off a few.
Kat, thanks for the offer, if you come across one let me know, I wouldn't mind filling the hole some day.

Steve, as Kat said, I will have a look as well. A vintage pear for a 1970 Sub, is it specific to the exact year or any year this model was produced, oh an how long was this one made for?
Once again Steve, congratulations, this one, Rogers AP and Kat's Orange are my favourite watches on here (well, I like my own ones a bit as well!).

Steve, check your PM's I think I have found a pearl and sent you the link. If they are $100 - $200, that's reasonable considering what some of us pay for a strap!

Yeah, its $108 US Roger which seems to be a really good price considering i have seen some going for north of $700.. And thats just the pearl!
