Our dear friend Dave (Daveathall) kindly gifted me some genuine Army NATO'S today, a really lovely thing to do, I was so touched. He had the thought they would look great on my Fellow Chronograph and I agree, can't wait to put one on it! However, it got my warped and black sense of humour mind working overtime. What if a genuine British Army issue NATO watch strap were to find its way onto a genuine cold war vintage CCCP military wristwatch?? Well, a nice mornings searching on eBay found a lovely vintage Vostok Dolphin Amphibian military divers watch with a really unusual and apparently rare case and the most exquisite crazy paving patina on the dial.Nice size for me as well, 34mm wide not including the crown and 41mm lug to lug. So the "buy it now" button was duly pressed! The seller has great feedback and knows his Military watch onions giving lots of details on the brands history. So, Dave, this new watch is your fault my friend Thanks so much Dave again your generosity really made my day and I have a feeling you have a similar sense of humour to me on these things! Here are a couple of pictures from the seller..

Dave's a great guy! I expected as much before even reading the topic. Ian strikes again! You should visit a watch museum some day with yours and have them setup on display or something.

Just found out from a really helpful fellow on Watchuseek that this was in fact made in the early eighties so a bit younger than I thought. Turns out as well the seller is a really great one, always nice to know! Thanks for your thoughts gents, this is going to be a fun combo!

You seem to be great at gathering information on your purchases, Ian. You should start looking for a larger storage case to hold all of your watches!

Thanks Rommel. You know, I have always been a lover of history and always have loved finding out the small details in things. When I was young I lived with my Aunt and Uncle and he used to collect and restore vintage cars. We had an old coaching shed next to the house so it could hold four cars across. We used to bring in a car needing restoration one side, strip it down to the last nut and bolt and reassemble the restored part back into a complete car on the other side! I spent so much time learning about them through books or going to garages hunting out parts. Its stood me in good stead through life as its not a chore to research but rather 80% of the fun in getting something new! Its worked for work as well! Back in the eighties my job was coming to an end as the owner decided to retire so I went looking for a new job and fancied my arm at selling! Found a company selling bearings and conveyer belts. Phoned them up on the Tuesday and got an interview for the Friday. Thing is i knew nothing about the subject so spent the Wednesday and Thursday in the library reading through every book I could find on conveyers and bearings. It must of worked as I got the job! I reckon we never stop learning, I try to learn something new every day, keeps the old brain active and makes life interesting.. Of late a lot of that has been on Horological subjects!

Couldn't agree more, Ian. I also really enjoy exploring new things and expanding my mind. This has also made a difference in my life as well, it's an incredible feeling!

I love the juxtaposition! You are a warped individual to put two cold war foes together and make the work together towards a common goal. Must make you feel like master of the universe! daveathall - You're a good egg!
