Could not resist this one after doing a lot of research and finding out its the real deal and an exceptional example at that. The watch is a Chistopol Sputnik with the rare rotating seconds disc instead of second hand made in the midst of cold war USSR. Apparently this is one of the tops of the Christmas tree as far as vintage Russian watches. I have always wanted a watch with a rotating disc on the dial. Pictures to follow but until then here are a couple for the seller. Oh yes, I seem to be really lucky with this but its been serviced as well!

Man, you are a naughty boy indeed! No doughnuts for you tomorrow with your coffee! Well, I guess I shall have to wait until next week to see this one. Rotating seconds, wow! Well, it just seems as though your luck is not going to run out at all! Something else to look forward to seeing! That movement looks in exceptional condition as well. Cheers, Carl

Wow, while I'm not a fan for Russia right now I have to say that is cool! The dial is so unique and the rotating disc seconds is just the bomb!

Ian, you always find a way to amaze me with these great finds. Never heard of this one before but it's rather unique. Russian watches don't seem to come up for discussion very often on any watch forum and the rotating disc I can't wait to see how it works in a video or something. Good job getting one that's serviced and ready to be a part of your collection!

I will try to do a video of the disc. The seconds numbers are under it so it should be something to look at with the sputnik and earth rotating!

This is no doubt a great way to enjoy that money and make it last so to speak. I was blinded by the watches that are on the way in the future it at times made me miss out on some good opportunities and enjoyment with my current watch. After seeing how they can be found on eBay etc now but in the future scarce has me gradually getting all of the things I want. The watches I bought in 2004 - 2006 can't even be found locally or on eBay and if so for A LOT more than what I paid then. The fun you're having with this is worth the money in itself. The watches are sort of like a bonus.

One of the things I love about this end of the scale is it brings back so much fun as the pressure of thousands of dollars on a purchase is not there. If the watch turns out to be a pig in a poke i have not lost a lot, if anything seeing as all the people I deal with have great feedback and offer returns!

It's a good way of looking at things. You certainly do know how to "buy the seller" and chose wisely. The fact is, anytime we buy something that involves UPS, FedEx or the crap postal service we take a risk. Either them not filing the paperwork correctly, having to wait long for an insurance claim / payout or the item being damaged etc. I've taken enough risks in my life to have it out of my system. Anytime I'm buying a watch for more than about $2,000.00 it has to be a local sale. Not just to eliminate some of the risks but to maintain my sanity not considering the million "what if's" as I refresh the tracking page 24/7.

I agree and as always, buy the seller! Luckily for me the two times I have purchased in the thousands from the net have been with Bernard Watch and they were exceptional. Luckily as well I have a friend who has a PO box on the other side of the border so I could do that as Bernard won't ship up here.

As time goes on it seems more and more realize what a hassle it can be to ship watches internationally. Viewing various for sale listings on forums I'm seeing more and more that say "Canadian deals only" or "Continental US only". Beware of FedEx, they pay the duties for you and do not so much as leave a note on the box to let you know when you pick it up or sign for it. A few days later you get a nice letter in the mail saying you own them how ever much money etc. That happened when I got the Fortis in 2006 from Scottsdale, Arizona. He shipped it overnight which was awesome and cost WAY less back then ($50). It also happened several other times with different items. Since then I've avoided FedEx unless it's domestic. I'm the type who would rather just pay up front and have it out of the way. If anything at least know about it and not think "woohoo, no duties!" only to have that proven wrong shortly after.

Oh don't talk to me about FedEx or UPS! Twice been stung by them and i simply will not purchase anything off shore that dictates those two as carriers.
I remember buying a fountain pen once from the States $50 for customs for tax which is fine but the bill was $125 due to the mark up's with Fed Ex!

They're crooks, and it's all profit motive. No other carrier did that to me, I have no problem paying the duties up front. Getting something you waited a while for only to receive a bill is no fun at all. What made it worse was the seller tried to get more money after for International shipping (once I had the watch). Seems like Canada Post and USPS are actually good for something.

And you know, touch wood I have yet to have Canada post charge duties. No, Firms like Fed Ex are like U Haul. You see $19 a day on the windshields but by the time you add all the extra's they won't let you out of the yard without having you kiss goodbye to $100 or more!

That's taking advantage on a whole other level. The funny thing is for domestic they're great. The AD here (and there too) La Swiss gets their watches delivered by them. Rolex Canada Limited ships by them as far as I know and Louis Vuitton does too for online orders. Canada post has some very good options too for domestic shipping. I recently sold an item on eBay to someone else in Ontario and it was ideal. The situation with them and the 25% duties certainly acts as a deterrent for spending outside of the country.

I like that. A while back, I briefly had a modern Vostok and I miss it.
