So cool. Just found a bunch of PDF's of vintage Seiko catalogs and there is my King Quartz from 1976. I just did an inflation calculator thing and this would have cost the equivalent now of just over $1000. Here is a screen grab I just took. Mine is the first one.

Looks like they had some linen dials too, which also look really nice.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed, it just arrived in Canada and has cleared customs which means it may very well be out for delivery tomorrow. If not then the pesky Canadian Thanksgiving weekend will delay it till Tuesday!
Super fast shipping from HK. He mailed in last Saturday!

So, I have it on my wrist and am blown away. Firstly, the pictures the seller had give no clue to how beautiful and well finished this watch is in person, hopefully the images below will convey it. This thing is pretty much mint, very few very minor marks on it and the dial is absolutely mint. The bracelet is one of those super comfortable multi link ones and the original signed King Seiko bracelet. But its the dial. Its like its alive with all the shading and texture. The markers shine like diamonds as they are so accurately cut. The Seiko name is a fraction of a millimetre off the dial just like the Grand Seiko's now and kind of floats there. This is a really high grade quartz movement in this one and it shows, the seconds hand not only hits bang on the markers but it does so with no lash or play. I know this sounds an odd description but it almost feels relaxing to watch it and I think for those who do not like a second hand ticking you might think again if you see the precision with which this one goes about its task. I will take a video of it this weekend and show you. I have been lucky enough to strap some Grand Seiko's to my wrist and this feels like I have again. If you want a Grand Seiko but cannot or don't want to spend the money they head over to eBay and take a look at the vintage King Seiko's! Oh, and you will notice I have set the day wheel to Kanji which is easy to do if your not a reader of it as the English version precedes it and the weekend as in Seiko tradition is blue for Saturday red for Sunday! Here are some shots, hopefully they convey how gorgeous this dial is!

Man, that dial is stunning! The detail reminds me of my AP RO dial. I think I had a bracelet like that too when I was a kid and it just flows around the wrist like a NATO or ZULU does. Congrats on yet ANOTHER great find.

Thanks Marcus and Roger. It is a stunner Roger and the texture your right, it does remind me a but of your AP. I can now imagine what it must be like wearing your AP, that texture just draws one in eh. But you know, its the second hand thats getting me, it just stops and starts without a quiver. It actually feels really restful watching it!

Nice one Ian! I have serviced a few Grand and King Seiko watches (vintage) and one was a quartz. The thing I found interesting was the second hand would advance to the nearest 10 second mark when the crown was pulled to hack the movement, as shown here...
Not sure if yours does the same?
Anyway, they are very nice watches for the money.
Cheers, Al
