As a rule of thumb, I don't do white watches. However... I can't get those two out of my mind. Photos from the Web. One is a spring drive and one is a 36000 bph automatic GMT. One is Ti and one is SD. One is snow... One is sunburst. They really have to be seen in person, because the photos really don't do them the justice they deserve. The fit and finish on case and dial is just unbelievable. Am I crazy for wanting to spend Rolex money on a Seiko?

Well, You know right away Chip I am just going to be labeled "enabler" with this but I care not one jot! Either of these I think will leave you very happy. Both have pretty revolutionary movements in their own way. The Spring drive, well, its a spring drive, an amazing piece of horology unique to Seiko and with that Accutron/F300z sweep second hand. It also has that stunning snowflake dial ( apparently the head watchmakers in Suwa wanted to pay homage to the unique way the snow fall on the ground looks in the region due to humidity and so forth and the way the wind sculpts the snow on the ground. Then there is the Hi-Beat with all that entails plus once again, a unique dial which was inspired by the view from the watchmakers windows in Shizukuishi of Mt Iwate's unique ridge formations. Thats one of the many things I love about Japanese design, its so deep as it honours so many aspects of nature which is hugely important to the Japanese culture. I notice as well this case is based on the limited edition of last year with the special finish which as far as I can tell is similar to the Black Polish finish found on the movements in Roger Smiths beautiful watches and is a traditional super high grade finish that gives the appearance of the steel looking black in certain lights, sort of an infinite finish if you will.. Hmm, can you tell I am a fan! I would have such a hard time deciding but I think the 3600 might just tip the balance for me with the larger hands which show off their amazing hand finish even more and that exquisite blueing on the GMT hand added to the amazing case finishing. But then again if I ended up with either I would not regret not getting the other as they are both stunning watches.

I am with you Ian. The GMT is my favorite if the two.
Also Chip, while these are expensive they really aren't Rolex level costs anymore. Between the Rolex price increases and the discount you can get on these, they are well worth the cost when the discount is considered.

I agree Roger, in fact when you look at the horological firsts in both watches, the pedigree, the fact that everything is hand assembled and made in house with the discounts available they are somewhat of a bargain all things considered.

Nice way to start the upcoming new year, indeed! This piece is easily one of the nicest Seiko's made. I love this brand!

Both are beautiful. My choice would be the GMT hi-beat as well. Sounds like a great start for 2015!
There was a time when I just went for black dials, but having the white/silver dials makes a great change. A shame to leave those out of the collection.
Cheers, Carl

I vote Hi beat also. I have always wanted one, but can't justify the price. It is stunning in black, as well.

I like the first one but not at a Rolex price. They really aren't Rolex prices anymore, but they are still way up there. I believe the GMT is in the 7k range MSRP and the SnowFlake is... 6250 I think. A nice discount would place them in a more manageable range.

But it seems they hold their value even in the use market very well. Could it be because there's not that many in the market and not a lot of people know about them. Almost like a luxury cult watch.
