It's been 22 days since I picked up the Astron, and for the past 14 days it's been sitting safely back in its box, unworn.
I like the watch a lot. The quality is there, I like the size, I like the look and I like the functionality. I'd much rather wear it on a strap (since I am not much of a bracelet person unless it's a Rolex) but I struggled with finding just the right one for it.
Anyway, enough rambling about that.
I sold the Astron to a friend of mine two weeks ago and that's why it's been in the box since. My friend has been busy lately and just have not had the time to meet with him to do the exchange. Keeping it in the box ensured that the watch won't receive any dings or scratches and also helped me get over selling a watch after just a couple of weeks of ownership.
At least so I thought.
My main reason for selling it was price. While I got a great deal on it, I always worry about resale. Not that I plan on it, but if something was to happen to me, I need the comfort of knowing that I can liquidate my tiny collection. With this watch, being not only Quartz but a technological marvel, I worry that in a year down the road you will be able to buy this for 200 bucks.
If that's the case, I would get screwed. Will this happen? I don't know. The first Astron Seiko sold in the 60s went for thousands of dollars, just to drop down to a few bucks down the road. Will this happen here? Or will the technology become cheaper and trickle down to less expensive models, without the fit and finish and ceramic bezel found on this model? Will this very watch sell for a few hundred bucks?
Anyway, to stop rambling, I miss the watch. I keep wanting to wear it, and here is my dilemma.
What do I do?
Sell the watch and move on.
Sell the watch and get another one, stop worrying about resale on a watch that did not cost a fortune to begin with.
Keep this watch, my friend will not care one bit. I can always put him in touch with the AD to get his very own.
