You probably all know by now that I have had a GS itch for a while. The built quality and the finish is just amazing and hard to describe. You really have to see one in real life and if possible, in day light, outside. I'll get straight to the point. On paper, the SBGE001 should be my perfect GS. Spring drive. GMT. Independent hour hand. 200 meters WR. 43mm case. Red GMT hand. Ceramic bezel with domed sapphire on top of it and lumed 24 hour markers injected into the sapphire. It seriously ticks every damn single box on a watch check mark. But... For some reason I can't explain, something holds me back. While I can't fault it in any way, something about it doesn't look right to me. Can it be the sapphire bezel and the fact that it looks completely different from angle to angle? The crown at 4? This is the watch I want to want yet it's missing that one thing that tells the brain "you have to have it". So. What's wrong with it? I tried looking in line but all the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Here are some pics from the web.

It's that katana sword Zaratzu polishing. It makes it look black from certain angles.

Great looking Grand Seiko! Can't pinpoint what holds you back either but if you do eventually decide to get one I can completely see why! Very unique and that bracelet polishing technique sets it apart in my mind.

Maybe it's the sapphire bezel? In certain light it's invisible and it looks like it's missing.
Check out pics 5 and 7.

Oh yeah, the reflection does make it appear to be missing or metallic. That's one of those things that could take some getting used to considering the watches you're currently wearing daily. Traits like that can be rather refreshing at times but also tougher to accept.

I agree 100% with the last sentence in your reply.
It's just something I'm not used to.

Definitely give it some thought. I had a similar dilemma with the SeaMaster 2220.80.00. The waves on the dial seemed cool but bugged me a bit at the AD. I overlooked this but in the end it came back to haunt me so to speak.

I'm sitting on an empty watch fund and that's not bad because it gives me time to think it through.
Unlike the 103 Super Spring Drive, the model I really like, this isn't an LE so it will be available whenever I'm ready. If I decide to go this route.

That's the ideal situation to be in here I think. Thankfully this piece isn't limited and should be around for quite some time. Even if you end up getting something else and want one of these later you'll be able to do so.

It's that ring between the dial and bezel for me chip. It makes the bezel jus that too wide I feel. If that were not there and just the ceramic bezel it would be nigh on perfect!
What did you think of the chrono? I love that one! Some don't like the pushers but there is an historic reason for them. It could be argued it's the perfect one watch, chrono, Second time zone and date.

Maybe that's it. I've said the same thing just last night, the polished bit between the bezel and the dial bugs me. It makes it look wide.

The chrono is sweet ianmedium but I'm not sure I can get over the chrono pushers. Or the MSRP. I think he sold that one last night to a gentleman that already has the off white dial version of the chrono. He sold at least three GS watches last night.

Second Ian's reason, but are you sure it isn't the idea of having a watch that you won't have the ability to easily flip without losing a bucket of dough because of the stigma?
