I notice a lot of new watch dials on the Rolex website for the platinum Day-Date model Yeah, I noticed that as well. One of my favorites is the silver quadrant, although for some it might be a bit monochromatic: I like it because of the beautiful gold applied romans. If those were available on the black dial, I think it would be perfect. I see that there is also a rhodium which is beautiful: And also my favorite Olive Green dial now available as well! Nice to see a few more options now. I just think it's a shame they don't have a fluted bezel option, although perhaps it has to do with the relative softness of the Platinum? Or maybe they just want the platinum model to be a bit more of a special model.

I think I would go for this beautiful black kind of sunburst if I was getting a platinum DD, which is highly unlikely. Even though it doesn't have the applied roman numerals: Definitely one of the most beautiful black dials I have seen. Would love to see it in real life. I must say, I just love this new DD40, with all the updates, regardless of which precious metal. Especially that President bracelet has ceramic pins in the links to prevent the usual stretch, and give it a real fluid feel.

It's a tough watch to not like! Looks good, and for me personally I still prefer those stick hour markers.

I think I will stay with the ice blue, diagonal motif dial.

I think I will stay with the ice blue, diagonal motif dial. The one reason I like that dial, is that it is exclusive to the platinum DD. I am a big fan of exclusivity. Call me a snob, or whatever, but I cannot deny it. The only problem I have with that dial, is that blue has never really been my color. If that makes any sense. Or, even if it doesn't, that is how it is with me. I had a couple of watches with blue dials, and they never lasted long. Funny how the color of a dial affects each one of us differently. I know there are some who just don't like green dials, especially the Olive Green on the DD40s and my OP34. I hope one day to see the DD40 with the ice blue dial. I would just love to see how it looks in real life. For some reason, I have developed this passion for the DD40 lately, and cannot seem to get past it. I have watched countless videos, and done lots of research, and really don't give a damn about who the famous people are who owned one, including presidents, celebrities. The watch seems to have a personality unmatched by any other make/model I have seen, regardless of whether it is gold or platinum. The President bracelet gives me shivers down my spine every time I see it. It's development over the years has culminated in 40mm of perfection IMO. And I can't quite understand it, because I am normally a big fan of watches that do not even have a date function, and if they do, I want the date window background to match the dial. The DD40 has both a date window, with cyclops to magnify it, and a rather large day window, invariably with a white background and black text, most often in total contrast to the rest of the dial. Yet, for some abstract reason, both work for me on this model. Could it be that, over the years, I have developed such a passion for Rolex watches, that the Cyclops and, in this case, the day window, have become a totally acceptable form of individuality for me?

carl - those two black dial DD40's with the stick markers are hot! I hadn't seen those before. Thanks for posting them. I have to agree with you on having a preference for the date window to match the dial color, but I'm not as stringent on that detail when I buy as you are. But in the case of the DD, it's such an iconic piece and has always had the contrasting white day/date windows except on the all gold (dial, case, bracelet, day/date disks).

Yeah, the gold dial DD is the only Rolex I can recall with the matching day/date window. And, just looking at the DD40 on the Rolex site, looks like it has white windows as well. So, I think it is only the DD36 that has it matching. I believe that black sunburst effect dial is also available on the DJ41, although maybe it's a dark rhodium dial with sunburst. Not sure, as they have such a limited selection of dials available to view for that model. Wish they would update that so we could see the full range.

Yes, the DJ41 is the newer black sunburst type dial, available with plain or fluted bezel. Very stunning indeed: Seems like they have updated the website, now showing all or most dial options for the DJ41. This Dark Rhodium is pretty gorgeous as well, although I think my choice would still be all black: While I do like the smaller watches, in the case of the DD40 or DJ41 I would certainly go for those sizes. I think they are gorgeous, still without being overly large. Although I am completely taken with the DD40, I could see myself getting quite excited about these DJ41 models.

Here is a link to a thread on another forum. The guy has a DD40, with the black sunburst dial, in white gold. Absolutely stunning! Best photo I have yet seen of the black sunburst dial. Also, he posted pics of the ceramic sleeves which surround the metal inserts on the bracelet, which lessen the wear and tear of the steel rubbing against the precious metal links. Anyway, it is interesting what improvements Rolex has made to the President bracelet as well. www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?p=7932103&posted=1#post7932103

This DJ41 combo has to be my favorite now. That black sunburst dial is stunning, and really does look good with any bezel/bracelet combo. Apart from a DD40, this DJ41 with this combo is really becoming my favorite Rolex. Just need to have the opportunity to see one in real life! It would be a wonderful addition to my small collection. Just can't seem to stop looking at photos of it. And I have no intention of selling either of my two OP34s. No sign of an incoming for a while, though.

For the month of September, my Rolex 116618LN has lost forty seconds in thirty days. I wind my watch eighty turns twice a week, Mondays and Fridays. I wear the watch twelve hours a day. When I put my watch to bed at night I have the watch dial facing up.
