Although I have no regrets at selling my Rolex Explorer I a couple of years ago - it led me to other new watches - and also my Omega 36mm Railmaster, I have been kind of looking for a watch that would be a good replacement for them. Occasionally, I just have the craving for a simple, small size, black dial watch with steel bracelet. After reading all the raves about the Seiko GS over the past few weeks, I have been doing a lot of research. I know a bit more now about the Spring Drive, the Mechanical and the Quartz movements. All exceptional and incredibly accurate. Next, it was time to look at aesthetics and size. The quartz were the last watches I looked at in the GS models, and as I went through the models, the GSBX059/061/063 jumped out at me, as they have a case size of 37mm. The Explorer and Railmaster case size was 36mm. I started to look at videos and read reports of this watch, and the incredible HEQ 9F movement it houses. Many of the reviews I looked at were by WISs who had, or had sold, their Rolexes and now own this watch. The GS came out on top, or just as well, for craftsmanship/build quality. And I can tell by the pics and videos how accurate these observations are. The last thing I looked at - because I was scared - was the price. It turns out to be the lowest priced GS of all of them! I have to say there is not a GS model I don't like. I just find this one to be the simplest design. Even the date window doesn't bug me. It is beautifully done. Needless to say, I don't think it will be too long before I have one of these beauties in my possession. The HEQ is perfect to add to my collection, along with the Omega Z-33, as the watch may not get worn as often as some of my others. On the other hand, it may end up being my daily wearer. This is the one: Cheers, Carl

That's a great looking piece - simple and elegant. I wish they had some lume though.

That's a great looking piece - simple and elegant. I wish they had some lume though. Well, I'm sure if they did, it would be done beautifully. However, I am willing to sacrifice that for the asesthetics. I just love the simplicity and the sharpness of the edges on the sword hands, and the beautiful applied markers. Hopefully, I can get a look at one today IRL, although the only AD is not a place where I want to purchase. I think, when the time comes, I will try and do that through Timeless Luxury, where you guys love and I would have no hesitation buying from them. Only thing is, not right now, as our dollar is at almost all-time low, and I would have to pay duty and taxes as well.

Wow! Looks like we are really screwed up here in Canada! Not only is the Vancouver GS AD the only one in Vancouver, they are the only one in all of Canada! I can't believe that a city the size of Toronto would not have an AD that sells Grand Seiko!

We have an office in Seattle where the watch could be mailed to and you could rent a car and go pick it up.

Dang you Carl! You're making it hard for my next Grail decision. For my 55th I was aiming for an AT, Explorer or Milguass. This will have to be considered. Who is the AD in Vancouver?

Mark Hi Mark, It's Rodeo Jewellers at Oakridge. The only one in Canada! And I have owned all three of the above watches. I preferred the previous Explorer to the new one, if you mean the Explorer I. I am going out there this afternoon. The only sales person I really liked is not at Brinkhaus downtown. But there is a guy at Rodeo who I bought a ring from a year or so ago. I got on very well with him, and I found his card. I might ask if he is there today. I will let you know how I make out.

But I have a friend down there who visits here occasionally. Anyway, I have to check out the price first. The exchange rate is almost at 25% higher up here now, so it may just be better for me to get it here. Anyway, purchase is not imminent, so I have time to check things out. Thanks very much for the thought.

Make sure you talk to Dan, he is known for making his customers happy.
We can figure out a way to get that watch into Canada.

I just have thought that I want to get a watch with quartz movement like the GS one (no lume dial). That is a beauty!!

I guess the quartz models tick away. My seconds hand sweeps as if it was an electric clock. Neatest thing I've ever seen a watch do. My Spring Drive (for sale) also does the same thing.

I like the simple uncluttered dial, 3,6,9 and no date. Strangely enough though, if I went with the AT I like the look of the grey or blue dial over the black. No doubt when I see one IRL or on my wrist the choice may be more clear. How was the visit to Oakridge today?

You have got to check out the Grank Seiko before you buy anything. And ask for Ryan, you might want to phone ahead to see which days he works. In addition to the quartz model I got, they have a few automatic high-beats and some Spring Drives. I find the prices for the quality to be unbeatable. Ryan is a real expert and loves to talk about all watches, so the experience was great.
