Not at all, the 5 series watches are great. Since they are at the lower end of their offering, they are almost always powered by a non hacking non manual wind capable movement. Like the one in your rekraft. Their pricier models, like the Monster, introduce the hacking and manual wind capability. I have a feeling my collection is going to largely be comprised of 'frugals' for quite some time... Nothing wrong with that. I started with Seikos 30 years ago, and I still love them. They are real work horses, and a whole lot of bang for your buck. Enjoy the ride!

Yup. Nothing wrong with that. I can tell you that I get as much joy from a frugal as I get from a higher end piece.
Furthermore, the monster is the watch I wear the most, and not because it's a frugal buy because I genuinely love it and i think it's a little marvel.
I still don't get how Seiko can make that for what they do and turn a profit. It seriously makes me question where do the money go when buying the big names.

Yeah, the Monster amazes me. Buttery smooth bezel, great bracelet, and now with a hacking movement. Not a better value dive watch in the world that I can think of.

Yes the SNKN02. It will go nice with my purple velour smoking jacket!!! Suhweet! Can't wait to see a photo of you wearing it in full repose, with the purple velour smoking jacket, of course! I've decided I don't care for the gold numbering...so I guess that cancels out the green Alpinist too...sorry Kat. Why are all the other Alpinists such unicorns?!? Should I avoid the Seiko 5 series automatics? No way! In addition to the Alpinist I also have a SKX007'and SNZH53. If you like blue the 53 is a nice shade of dark blue and one of my favs. Although it now has some competition. See the incoming thread. BTW. Welcome to the forum.

Okay. I'll reconsider on the green. Too funny! I ordered a 53 today, before I read this!

I have more Seiko watches than any other manufacturer and appreciate each one for what they are. From my $35 Seiko 5 to the Grand Master, they all serve me well.

A Seiko 5 is the watch that got me real interested in trying to build a watch collection. I bought one on eBay a while back and loved it! Ever since I sold it, I've been wanting another.

I think what sets our forum apart is that we love watches in general and we all see beyond a price tag.
