Since Klange and MuckyMark have raised my curiosity and interest in micro brands, I've fallen for a few attractive, yet inexpensive pieces. Here's the first: Deep Blue Sea Ram 500 - MOP dial 500m WR - 45mm - Sapphire Signed crown - Swiss Ronda 715 That's a great looking watch! Glad to have been able to encourage interest in such a great sector of the market. I have been very impressed with the ingenuity of these brands. I have been looking into H2O watches and just found out that their Orca watches are not only able to be customized in 200 configurations, but the movement, dial, and crystal are built into a module that can be moved from case to case. This is an ingenious idea!! Here is a link to a YouTube video demonstrating how to move the module between cases. Thanks Klange! I ran across the Orca last week. Brilliant idea. Appreciate the YouTube link!

Thanks Mark. The dial is blue, then it's green, then it's reddish, then blackish. He's out of a lot with a few exceptions...I bought this on eBay new with tags. Sorry to clarify, I meant Scurfa was sold out. Deep Blue actually have Canadian website. Free shipping and no border hassles. There's a couple I'm liking....now about that Helson Blackbeard. That's a conversation starter. Here's the next one. Nothing special - something I can knock around with and not worry about. A $50 Amazon gift card made this very affordable. Momentum Torpedo Pro

tempusfugitNeat! I like those hands, What's the lume like? I have to send one of mine to them for some work. I'm going to ask if they can swap the hands to these, I think it's the same movement. I wish they would remove that trademark R from their logo. A small thing, literally and figuratively, but it bugs me...

I can see that. It kills the symmetry.

Lume falls well short of not quite as good as a Seiko 5, but acceptable. Has a polished stainless back and 316L ss case, brushed finish. but appears to be a bead-blasted, base metal case. Heat-tempered, anti-glare, Mineral crystal. I think the crystal is poly. The WR rating is 200m and the crown is a screw-down. I think its going to be my beater - they advertise it "as a tough watch". I'm going to change the strap though. In other news, I discovered a Hodinkee write-up on the Vostok Amphibia. I have one on the way...now there's a super-affordable classic with a cool story. www.hodinkee.com/blog/vostok-amphibia

tempusfugitGlad to provide the link and nice to hear you found their watches already. Sometimes I just Google common features of micro brands like a Miyota movement to see if I can dig up any more cool brands. Thanks for the great article on the Amphibia. That's a watch with loads of history and engineering.
