I'm looking at the Prospex SRP641, an ion plated dive watch with the "shrouded" bezel. My concern is how sturdy the ion plating is. I'm not particularly rough on watches and I would probably not wear this everyday. But, I would not be happy if bright metallic scratches started to appear on the pristine black plating.
Has anyone had experience with Seiko plating for watches at this price level? Can you provide me with your perspective?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. I know there are quite a few Prospex owners here but don't recall seeing anyone with that particular model or even an ion coated version for the matter. From my experience with other brands, the vapor deposition coatings have come a LONG way as far as durability. I have a Brietling that has held up extremely well and I know some Damasko owners who have had great experiences with their coated watches as well. I just can't speak for the Seikos yet. Great looking piece though. If you decide to buy, call Dan at Timeless Luxury Watches (http://www.timelessluxwatches.com/) and see what he can do for you on price. He's helped many of us with our purchases.

Perhaps timelessluxwatches can help with the answer as well. I've had the Astron, which was coated, and I did not experience any issues with it. Same goes the the blue monster.

Welcome to the forum. I have a Seiko SNZG17, SRP581 and a Torgeon T5 in black IP. So far I have had no issues, these are watches I wear while working around the house or yard especially the Monster.
