Well, the prices have officially gone up in Canada. The Globemaster, from $8100 to $8650. And, the Moonwatch (Hesalite) up to $5950, almost 6 grand! A beautiful, iconic piece though it is, far as I'm concerned the price is now over the top. The Speedy increase must be at least 8%. Glad that I got mine when I did. They were going pre-owned for $3000-3500CAD, now up here they are just over 4 grand.
Also, they are introducing a Globemaster Annual Calendar for 2016. Up from 39mm to 41mm. Even though I passed over the Globemaster for a Grand Seiko, I still had quite a bit of interest in possibly getting a Globemaster at some point. As far as I'm concerned, introducing the new model now ruins the exclusivity of the Globemaster. I felt it was sort of like the Tresor, only also available in stainless steel. The introduction of the new model - and the new price - has caused me to totally lose interest in the model.
A pity. After being a diehard and loyal Omega fan for so many years, I find my attitude starting to go a wee bit sour. Looking at Rolex prices lately, I can only say the same thing. Anyway, we will see what Basel 2016 brings.

GS is more and more appealing. Better quality than Omega and less expensive. Too bad they lack a bit in the variety department.

Well, you know, Chip, after years and years of flipping watches, I find that I'm happiest with the simple style of dial of the GS. The dials on all of my three watches are basically same style, just different colours and textures. And I'm finding - at least for the past year - that makes enough variety for me. But, that's just me. I can imagine those who want more variety might find having more than one a bit mundane.
I have really been taking a close look at the quartz diver, though. It looks like a beauty. Only thing is, I don't know about the thick clasp at the back. I am so used to the comfortable thin clasp on my other GSs.

The prices are getting insane. I can only imagine what the Planet Ocean Chronograph costs after the increase. When I tried on the Submariner yesterday I just couldn't see myself paying $10,000 for one. Chances are I'll eventually end up with a new Rolex but certainly in no rush. Enjoyijg the ones I have for sure. This is part of the reason I want to have a decent collection. At some point I will stop buying watches and just have fun with all of the ones I own.

Well, it seems that is the point I am at now with my Grand Seikos and the Speedy. And I am doing my best to make that last! I am certainly enjoying this small collection more than any other I have owned. Looks like I had better hang on to the Speedy as well!

The speedy is the only omega I would own right now. Based on current offerings.
Their older models are better IMHO.

I love the Speedmaster too. The only reason I didn't consider one this time around is the fact I'm really into water sports. The Seamaster Chronograph made the most sense. Having tried on both the new and old models for most of the Omega line the only one I prefer the new model for would be the Planet Ocean series. carl Once you start to get bored you can swap straps, change up the daily rotation etc. I'm SO happy to feel the same as you. I spent at least 30 hours in the past few weeks looking at all other brands. Nothing really did it for me and that's a very good thing really. The Speedmaster is the ultimate Omega to own so you're set there. Especially with the history behind this watch for you. For me collecting accessories was a great way to make this wonderful hobby more interesting. This was especially true between watch purchases! All I know is, it's a very good feeling when you own all of the watches you desire pretty much.

Wow, that's over 25% in two years. I know there is a better bracelet and packaging now but I'm pretty sure all R & D and tooling cost have long been recovered. I'm glad I bought mine when I did and seeing the images of Scott Kelley and other astronauts/cosmonauts wearing their speedy's this week cements it as a keeper.
The weak CDN dollar and rumoured increases from Rolex is why we bought ours last month. There are articles on "price fatigue" but other than Tag announcing some decrease in prices I haven't seen many changes for the better.
I'm glad I have been fortunate enough to acquire my so called grail watches before the prices increased any further.

It probably has to do with the fact that Oil bounced back up slightly...

Either way it makes me VERY happy to already have the only Omega watches I want to own. This trend only continues with time.
