Just got this teaser email from Omega, as I'm sure many of you did: Of course, my first reaction was the Waves. Pretty sure the Seamaster 300M will be upgraded this year anyway, as it's the last to receive the new movement. That will be great, in my book, if the waves are back. For some reason, I am more excited about this BaselWorld than previously. Really looking forward to Rolex as well! Only 2 more sleeps! Cheers, Carl

I got that as well, I’m hoping they are bringing back an updated version of the 2254.50

I got that as well, I’m hoping they are bringing back an updated version of the 2254.50 I sure hope so. Although I had the slightly smaller version at 36.25mm. Love the sword hands, and huge marker at 12. That 1120 movement was one of the most accurate I had.

Sword hands, wave dial and a thinner case could make me an Omega fan again.

Just went to the Omega website. Some really cool new pieces, but have to say this one steals the show for me. And thunkfully not LE: At 42mm case size, I think this will appeal to - and fit - just about every wrist. I still can't find the thickness, though. The proportions on the dial are excellent, with date at 6, and the waves are modified from before, inset it looks like, but I think they look really fine. I am glad they retained the controversial 5-link steel bracelet. It really is one of my favorite bracelets. About 14 different variations to choose from, including 1 LE in Ti/Sedna Gold: www.omegawatches.com/watches/baselworld-2018/seamaster-diver-300-m-collection/These two 1948 Commemorative Seasmaster LE models. The small seconds looks identical to the London 2012 Olympic Edtion: Looks like IMO Omega has done a fine job this year. Cheers, Carl

I’m not a fan of the new Speedmaster Apollo 8 with the skeleton dial. I like the 300M although I’m not sure why they need a HRV especially one that can be released under water. Tech for techs sake almost.

Tech for techs sake almost. I am not fond of that Speedmaster either. I kind of agree about the HRV on the 300M, although it seems to have been almost a trademark for so many years. I kind of like it for the almost novelty value that sets it apart from other divers around that WR, though.

I just wish there had been a white dial version. I seem to be leaning towards a white/silver dial for the next acquisition.

That one is worth a look, to see it in real life with that silver dial. There is actually a really good looking grey wave dial 300M as well: www.omegawatches.com/watches/baselworld-2018/seamaster-diver-300-m-collection/I think for once that I am going to wait until Fall. There is supposed to be a new James Bond movie coming out, and I am willing to bet there will be a LE James Bond 300M to go with it. I really liked the last 300M JB edition, with the bullet case back. The new wave dial is really getting to me. Apparently it is ceramic, and that shiny surface with the waves really gives it great depth. Good thing I'm not working right now. I will probably be online most of today with all this Basel hype! I don't remember ever being this excited about Basel before.

Love the micro adjust clasp, ceramic dial and ceramic lumed bezel, but not a fan of the tapered HEV, skeleton hands, or the bond bracelet - those are deal killers for me. Great price point though - kudos to Omega for keeping the price down.

I’m not a fan of the new Speedmaster Apollo 8 with the skeleton dial. If that came with a solid dial, I'd be very interested. The moon texture is cool and the yellow contrast is excellent. The few places they chose to cut out the dial, show little to nothing of the movement and are uninteresting to see. The dial texture on the other hand is really beautiful and it would have been a better chose just to leave the dial solid.

So I keep coming back to this Speedy Apollo 8 and am finding it more interesting for several reasons. 1) It's a ceramic case DSOTM, but 2.5mm thinner (13.8mm thick) because it uses a newer version of the manual wind 1861 movement 2) That movement also gives it the more traditional 3 subdial look 3) It's less of "skeletonized" watch and more dial-less since the textured parts you are seeing are actually the back of the movement plates with the subdials filling in most of the rest of the space - still wish they'd filled it all in, but cool nonetheless. 4) The yellow accents play well off the black dial/case IMHO. I wonder if future ceramic speedy's will get the manual movement 3 subdial treatment to get Omega moving back to some thinner watches?

I like the blue and black dialled versions but wish they had made the GEV a little less pronounced. Lovely dials on both though.
