There is another good reason to by the hesalite too. It is looked upon as one of the difficult ones to take pictures of. Might be a good challenge ;D

I am going for the hesalite one, I think its an important part of the history as Jon said, but I also like the unbreakable aspect of hesalite, and if it gets a few scratches then just throw some brasso on it and polish it up I have several watches with mineral crystal and even a few with just plain old glass or plastic. I have never scratched the crystal of a watch, so i dont think it would be a problem with the speedy either.

When I bought my Speedy, I considered the sapphire/display back model. I wanted to stay as close to the original so I chose the hesalite 3570.50 and have never regretted it IMHO it is the classic chrono and a very important part of history A must for every Omega collector. Cheers Bob

I think this is a real matter of personal preference Erik. At the end of the day it's you who will be wearing the watch and if you prefer Sapphire Crystal, then I'd tend to say go with that. I think I remember reading a while ago that lots of Omega customers liked the idea of the Speedmaster but really wanted Sapphire Crystal. I think probably this is why this watch was produced - as a reply to demand. So you're not alone. But, look. They are both good arguments. There is a lot of history with this watch and heasalite crystal and some people just prefer one to the other (I sense a poll coming up, I'll get on that). As many others have said, here and elsewhere; go with what you're happiest with. Rambler
