Just going to add some photos for now, and some comments later, as my computer is acting up right now. Photos are always the best idea to present a watch anyway: Thanks for looking, more photos and comments to come later. Cheers, Carl

Wow, the back plate and bridges on the P5000 movement are gorgeous. Hadn’t seen that shot before. As you know I’m a big fan of Ti watches with 3 in my collection. Congrats Butter!!!

I have the grey and black gator or my 422 and agree that they look great on the PAMs, as does the plain honey leather, the green leather, the rubber, the tobacco ostrich, and the alacantra. LOL. It’s so weird how many straps go well with the 422. I imagine yours will be the same.
The nice thing about PAMs - you can buy a new strap and feel like you have a new watch and it’s much cheaper than buying a new watch!

The nice thing about PAMs - you can buy a new strap and feel like you have a new watch and it’s much cheaper than buying a new watch! Yeah, and I love the straps you have gotten for yours over time. Those amazing ones from Combat in Montreal. After a while, I might go for one of those as well. Just for fun, I went back to the Panerai Boutique to take a look at some of their straps. They had absolutely drawers full of them that fit this watch! I was so overwhelmed by the collection, I just said I would have to consider before I go back! You are right about how well so many straps suit these watches. While I love looking at photos of all the Panerai models, I think changing the strap just might do the trick for me. After all, I got the model that most appeals to me. Now into day 3 of the 8 days. It is difficult to monitor the timing exactly, without hacking seconds, second hand, or minute markers along the dial. However, it looks like mine is about 7 secs. fast as it hits the 5 minute marker. If it continues like this, I will be more than happy. Thinking perhaps as it gets to the end of the 8 days, the accuracy might be off a bit more though. So far, anyway, about +2-3 secs/day which is more than acceptable. After the 8 days is over, however, no more monitoring. Just gonna wind it up whenever I feel like it and enjoy it. I do have some pretty remarkable watches admittedly. But this one is the biggest shocker of all. I really do, finally, "get" what other Panerai owners appear to feel about their watches.

The 422 is an inconsistent timekeeper over the 3 day duration for it’s full power reserve. One day it’s fast, then the next it’s slow but over the 3 day’s it’s decent and kind of averages out - yet no where near as accurate as my modern Rolexes. I’ve heard the same from other Panerai owners as well. Not having a second hand is a benefit with a Panerai. If I focused on accuracy, it’d been gone a long time ago! LOL
My suggestion though is to keep the PAM for a year to be sure it’s a keeper before you go down the strap rabbit hole. Otherwise you end up with a watch and a strap drawer full that you need to flip later. My 422 will be flipped at some point when I figure out my next high end watch - it’s nice but it’s also the one I can do without in my collection.

As you know, I'm not a big on changing straps anyway. The two supplied with this one will really give me lots of enjoyment. I just hope that now I can settle down and just enjoy my beautiful collection! Fortunately, I am not nearly as conscious about accuracy as I once was. Especially when the watches most of us wear change from day-to-day.

Thanks, Robb. The dial simplicity as well as the great aesthetics of dark brown dial and titanium really sold me on this particular model. What I really "need" in my collection is a good, sturdy, dependable Rolex. Probably a Professional or maybe a GMT. I am going to wait it out on that one, and see what Basel 2019 brings. I would love to jump on a Submariner 114060. But I know that I would be disappointed to find out that I got it a year or so before the modifications, if indeed they are going to modify it. New lug width maybe, and new movement would be great, but one never knows. Here I am getting excited about Basel 2019 already!
