Surfing around somewhere, being new to watches, I saw that German vintage watches with cal. 10-30 were desired. I am not a connoisseur. So I searched Ebay "gub 10-30" a few months ago and up popped one at a surprisingly affordable starting bid. Ok, I followed it and no bids. As the auction wound down I thought let's take a shot and submit a bid even though I didn't think I had a chance at all and really knew nothing in detail. Surprisingly, my last second bid was the only one. So I wondered more what really is this watch. I emailed the seller after receiving it and he replied he ordered 3 of these models at a trade show in Chicago in 1992. 35mm and fits just right after a small adjustment. 2 came with the standard ETA movement but one came with the very early and newly developed caliber 10-30, stamped 292 below the balance wheel. 2= qtr, 92= yr of manufacture. He sold the 2 ETAs, wore the 10-30 until 1996 when it was serviced, and it has been in it's original box since, he related. As far as I know 292 is the earliest known production stamp date of the 10-30 that Glashutte Original specified only for their high end watches. Except this GUB, somehow. I wondered if this was a franken, but the seller states it is original delivery from the factory. Are there any more out there? I think it's a factory anomaly. 1992-93 was a transition period as GUB was purchased by the the new company Glashutte Original. I thank the seller. Here's his original Ebay photos accompanying his offer.

Wow, great write up. After you posted it the first time, I googled it and saw that it was the original GO. The complete story with it being one of the last GUBs before the GO transition, makes it even more special. Congrats on the truly unique and gorgeous piece.

Here's a lovely early, ca.1993, Glashutte Original Senator on Ebay now. From Austria. Has the cal. 10-30 stamped 293. Enjoy. "Glashütte Original Senator Automatik 10-30 GUB"
