That chrono sold for $837.77. All the watches on this thread are from that same respected seller unless otherwise noted. He'll list around 7 +/- every week all closing within an hour, fyi. Hey, it's not Phillips with Aurel Bacs but it's fun and fresh and all watches are serviced. It's rare he lists a chrono. Mostly dress but seeing more sport. They usually range from $200 - $1k, sometimes more. And he gives detailed descriptions of the watch. And he'll have top loaders but when they are serviced his trusted watchmaker takes picture of movement before buttoning everything back up.

Even more certain I just found my source for the next vintage. He sounds like a great seller. My fingers are crossed that he lists either a 70s diver or chronograph within that range. This takes a lot of the guess work out of it. You had me at top loader movement pictures. Nobody else seems to do that. The thing that makes me lean more towards a diver would be water resistance. I guess they're serviced so a chronograph should be fine but the older Chrono pushers don't instill much confidence in me for cleanings.

And talking about description, surfing around I recently landed on this site. They almost write a book about each vintage they have (many). I have no idea regarding their reputation or standing as seller. Here's their link to one example click . btw, this watch is a top loader and they have some interesting comments about that. You have to enquire if a watch is even still available but they keep their encyclopedic descriptions as a resource for collectors. "It is most significant to note that the hand wound, all mechanical, 17 jewel Omega calibre 865 movement that is to be found in this watch was actually developed both for the Chronostop and Omega’s famous Speedmaster chronograph (cal. 861)..."

priamo that is an interesting site. I see what you mean by the essays they write. Lots of interesting information and trivia on the pieces. rw16610 good luck spending less than a few minutes at their site. :-)

priamo That Omega Chronostop is the archetype of what I'm seeking. 70s styling with the orange triangular second hand. That's what attracted me to my Caravelle Set-O-Matic, that styling for a fraction of what the more well known brands who made similar watches in the 70s now go for. What would make that Omega perfect for me is if it had the original bracelet. The Tissot in this thread, I'm so sorry I missed it. That's also something I would love to own. Anything significantly over $1,000 CAD will have to wait until after I secure the Planet Ocean Chronograph later this year once all goes as planned. muckymark I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time on this site! The history behind these watches is absolutely incredible and it's why I would like to secure one for my collection before it gets even harder to do so. If only I had discovered some of these watches or brands years ago.

Bidding ends Wed. 6 lots. "Mens Original 1963 Lord Elgin 14K SOLID GOLD Durabalance 23j USA Watch & BOX A+" Mint & Untouched in Lord Elgin Box - Fully Serviced & No Res! 37 x 31mm "One of Elgin’s last crowning achievements, the 23 jewel Grade 770 adjusted to Six (6) positions or what could be considered chronometer grade by any standard....What makes this movement special is its free sprung (dura) balance that dispensed with the conventional regulator pins found in most mechanical movements. The only other movement, Swiss or American, that comes close is the Patek-Philippe Gyromax balance of the same period."

Man oh man, some nice watches there.
The Elgin looks a bit like a 1940s watch despite being from the 60s, I like it!
Some of the watches like this from the earlier days seemingly don't even have a gasket or any water resistance at all.

priamo That's a nice find! I love the styling of this brand and can see why they were so popular in the 60s. That movement is in excellent shape too.
