Very cool! They say it won’t be used in ay LE’s but did not say it won’t be used in a SE watch and I can see them using it in a SE 50th Anniversary Moonwatch for Apollo 11. I love that the watches using these movements will e assembled completely by one watchmaker from movement, to dial, hands, and casing.

I love that the watches using these movements will e assembled completely by one watchmaker from movement, to dial, hands, and casing. It does say in the Fratello article that it will not be used for the 50th Anniversary Moonwatch for Apollo 11: "This movement will not be used in a limited edition watch, but there will be a limitation in production for the reasons stated above. Omega revieled that there will be something in gold, for sure. Also, this movement will not be used in any of the upcoming Apollo 11 Limited Edition models in 2019." Sure will be interesting to see what becomes of all this. Too bad my watch fund purse is so empty now! I can only imagine what it is going to cost, some kind of SE. Would sure love to have that movement in my Sedna Gold FOIS! Anyway, tons of discussion already on the WUS Forum. I doubt I'm the only one thinking about which watches in their collection might be sold?!

I saw the LE comment it what if they issue a “Special Edition” rather than an LE? Maybe they were being coy, maybe not. One thing for sure, with recent hot speedies, they are impossible to get initially because of the profit driven flippers, so I will not be lining up to try to get an early release.

Maybe it will be a SE, numbered like the FOIS. Anyway, I am very happy right now with my own "Trilogy": the 60th Anniversary Railmaster and Seamaster 300, and the FOIS. BTW they got a new 60th Anniversary LE Speedmaster in at the Boutique last week. Magically appeared, it seems. That is the one of the Trilogy that went the fastest. Like the others, the Speedy is done so well, but oddly enough the one of the three I like the least. I suppose it would be a great case for the 321 to be housed in.

After sleeping on all this, I am not going to get too hyped up about all this. There really is nothing I have read about that proves the 321 is actually any better than the 861 or 1861. Other than it is column wheel. It is an iconic movement, as it was in the first Speedy to hit the moon, and other occasions. The 1969 First Man on Moon is a big deal for me, as I watched it with my Dad.
I do admit a lot of ignorance when it comes to the finer mechanics of these movements. Regardless of the fact that I have taken one of the simpler movements apart, and put back together, a couple of times under the guidance of an Omega watchmaker. While it was an amazing experience, I am still none the wiser about the mechanics of most movements. One of the reasons I have stayed clear of the new Zenith Defy.
In the end, a large part of my love of watches is simply the appreciation of the mechanical movements, and I love the interaction with a watch that has a manually winding movement. The developments of the new watch with the 321 will surely bring a lot of hype and, as you say, profit driven flippers. For me, I will have to wait until I see the final package. My FOIS Sedna Gold is MSRP $20,300CAD, so I can only imagine what a new SE will cost if, indeed, that is what it will be.

I watched the moon walk with my parents as well and think bringing out a SE or LE for the 50th would be a huge success, but hey, what do I know. I’m not in marketing, just a watch geek. :-)
