Selling my PAM 562 8 Day Titanium I thought was a big mistake, after being without it for a few months. Panerai has discontinued production of the 562 and 564 Titanium models, the 564 being the one with small seconds at 9 o'clock. Although there are a few still available, I thought it best not to repeat the same model. Then I remembered the 797, a Luminor 8 Day Titanium 44mm announced in Sep 2018. It has small seconds at 9 o'clock, power reserve indicator at 5 and bonus is the sandwich dial. Also the beige tinted lume is a lot warmer than the greenish hue of the 562 and 564 lume.
I thought the power reserve on the dial might dominate a bit too much and make it looks too busy. But I don't mind features on the dial as long as they are functional. Unless I wound the 562 every few days, I would have to write down the date I fully wound it to keep track. And the small seconds tells instantly whether or not the watch is still ticking away.
So down I went to the local Boutique to take a look. They had also the 795, which is the stainless steel version. The 796 is the Destro, and and has the power reserve indicator on the back like the 422. I would actually like to get a Destro but since it only comes in stainless steel, I will likely go for the 797. I have sold three of my PAMs, the 721, 424 California and the 562.
Wish I had my camera with me the other day, but took some pics of the internet:
795 SS and 797 Titanium:
Both the 795 and 797 have a solid, screwed in caseback. With 300M WR:
I think the Destro is really a super cool model, and apparently the most popular, at least at the local boutique. If it was titanium, I would really be interested:
Sorry no "incoming", at least not yet. I haven't 100% decided against the 796, but I think eventually the 797 might be the one. The 796 really reminds me of a smaller 422, which Roger and Chip both owned. The bit of blue text is really cool as well IMO. I actually think this is about my favorite of all the new Panerai models.
Anyway, thought I would share these models.
Cheers,
Carl
