I saw this posted on another forum not long ago. Someone from Calgary, Alberta here in Canada was at an AD today and all he got was the latest catalog and a 2021 magazine. Apparently they had not a single watch on display. Although I've got all the watches I need, it's a bit sad that potential buyers can't view a piece in person let alone buy one.

You know what would stop that nonsense in its tracks? A boycott. All of a sudden Rolex would never run out of watches again.

That would be to only way to make them resolve this to some extent. The poster also said the other store in Alberta had nothing, zero. I wouldn't be shocked if some were in the back safe "reserved", but at this rate all of those likely sold too. They claimed that when they do get more in, they're gone within 20 minutes. As a long time Rolex enthusiast I'm actually saddened by the shenanigans.

An all too familiar sight! Looks like my Rolex AD here in Vancouver. The only way I have ever been able to see many of the models is at a non Rolex AD who has a pre owned section.

carl What a shame really. It makes me grateful I was able to see some now discontinued models in person many years back. For me 2005-2014 or so was the golden era (modern), I just never realized it at the time. Who would've thought.

rw16610 so glad for you that you acquired that GMT when you did. Likely the nicest one ever done by Rolex and long discontinued!

carl I'm grateful for that beyond words. Although I'm not a fan of what Rolex has become, they remain my favourite brand based on the history, designs, and memories. Grateful for the collectible items I have such as the Sea-Dweller tool kits, anchors, and much more. The sad thing is, even when I was trying to get my 116710LN things were starting to hey more difficult. Albeit nothing like this, it quickly went from every store having one to no idea when replacement inventory would be shipped. It was like a weight lifted when I got it, thanks to you. Also that was the moment I was certain I'm done with any type of industry hype. The thrill of the chase used to be more fun when you could simply walk into an AD, try on / compare multiple pieces and look forward to your final visit where you take it home with you. Like all the others, the GMT will be kept for life. As nice as the BLNR or BLRO are, I (personally) much prefer my LN. The 3186 movement is the best of both worlds, pretty much the older movement in a modern piece. What makes the GMT even more special to me is the fact it's an M serial number, full set. A lasting warranty card vs. the paper and from an era where you can roughly have an idea of the production date. 2008 was also a time where Rolex was even more special to me. Back in 2008 I believe that's when I visited Royal De Versailles on Bloor Street in Toronto. I went to view the beloved 16610 Submariner, my first watch obsession. The sales lady took the 16610 out of the display case and handed it to me. As I was admiring the piece, she reached into the case and pulled out the 116710LN. I put the 16610 down on the pad, compared the two side by side, and the GMT in that moment became my dream watch. It was everything I wanted in a watch and for years I thought about it, dreamed of the day where one was on my wrist permanently. I feel nostalgic just typing this up but the experiences had, friendships made, and motivation it provided me (to finish College etc) have forever enhanced my life.

On my way I stopped at the local Rolex AD, now former Rolex AD. They said Rolex, after 46 years, ended their AD there in favor of bigger retail ADs. Anyway, they have 1 new Rolex left. Appears to be a yellow gold 28mm Pearlmaster and gold bracelet with some diamonds in the bezel.

That's certainly been very common, particularly in the US over the last few years. Very sad for those companies, as it was nice to have more options but so much has changed, and not for the better either.
