That's right, something else is on the way.
Since I have no plans to get this watch serviced by Omega in the future (ever), I wanted to have spare bracelet links, pins, etc. One thing I've learned about owning vintage watches is to get what you can, while you can.
I've been having calls and exchanging emails with the Omega spare parts team for Swatch Canada. They're great, but one thing I've learned is calling in for a vintage piece isn't nearly as easy as a modern (go figure).
Some great insight was gained though. The bracelet I have is no longer made, and wasn't original to this piece. I'm not phased by that because I much prefer it to the one that was. The alternative to the beads of rice still wasn't exactly like this, as the clasp was different.
All of that prompted me to do things the right way and buy a vintage part to future proof this piece.
Here's a look at what I've got on the way via DHL. Import fees already paid ,so hoping it gets here before the end of the week:
Here are the options Omega presented:
$620 CAD plus tax for the bracelets (the one I sourced was much less than this), end links were $64 CAD each and had to come from Switzerland. Springbars $4.50 CAD each, but FedEx to my door was $17 CAD so I passed.
Thankfully 18mm springbars are not hard to come by, I've got plenty (not Swiss) in a case here of various sizes, should the need arise.
Part of the fun is trying to find 529 endlinks, which Omega didn't have. Either that or she was not suggesting them because only what the system matched to the watch number they could suggest due to the no returns policy.
For my beloved vintage that got away, I know it was near impossible to find additional links / pins. So I've mitigated this in the future, I feel. Below is a shot of that watch, the one which made it possible for me to obtain the GMT Master II (part of a trade). This new to me vintage is it's replacement, to carry on the memory, for life.
