Cyclops question. Will Rolex remove the cyclops from a new watch at a customer's request; or, is this generally cost prohibitive? Do you see much of this on the secondary market? i.e. genuine models minus cyclops. Rambler

Rambler.. although no rolex expert.. i have the answer for you. When i was thinking about buying a sub, at my AD, i mentioned that i did not like the cyclops, as it spoiled symmetry of watch. My AD told me that rolex can remove cyclops free of charge, but it would involve AD sending back watch to rolex, who would do itbut it may take time. HE did mention that a couple of his customers had taken that course of action also. In the end i opted for a SD.. so it was not an issue. mamas

Mamas is dead on.
The cyclops is easily removed by skilled hands. I've read and seen pictures of a WIS who had the cyclops removed from his Day-Date and DateJust b/c he did not like them. I think his local dealer did it on-site.

On a Saphir crystal every watchmaker sould be able to do this. Now how about a plexi cystal? Just have a look in my Rolex Forum: Operation Plexi GMT ------>

I took a cyclops off of an Invicta with a cigarette lighter. 5 seconds of heat, and it slid right off. Then cleaned the crystal with some mineral spirits to get the remaining adhesive off. I think I'd leave it to a professional if it were a Rolex. I went ahead and disassembled the whole thing just for fun. It ended up being fun but not so good for the watch.

It went back together just fine....until I realized the bezel was warped. I managed to straighten it back up, and then the insert popped out. Now the whole thing is in my "parts bin". Anyone need any Invicta parts?

Looks good! Sort of an LV/Dweller hybrid look. Don't think I'd have the heart to do that to an LV though.
