People with Alpha watches have commented that the Cyclops doesn't magnify the full 2.5X like the "real thing" on a Rolex. Well, if you look closely you will see that it does. It's just magnifying something that is about 20% smaller. The date aperture and fonts on the Alpha are about 20% smaller than on a Rolex.
As daktarz has shown over on TZ, the date is quite legible on his YM with the Cyclops removed (as it is on a Seadweller). However, on these Alphas, the date is so tiny you actually need the Cyclops in order to read the date clearly. So the illusion of less magnification is a product of the size of the date rather than the power of the lens.

I noticed the same thing with the Invicta that I removed the cyclops from. The date window is TINY.

Judging from that photo, I'd say the date window on the Alpha is even smaller!

BTW, how did you remove the Cyclops? Same way daktarz did on his Yacht-Master?

I just heated it for a few seconds with a lighter and then slid it right off. Had to use a little "Goo Gone" to get the remaining adhesive off.
