I sent a PM to the Alpha guy in HK asking how to change the strap on the Radiomir chronorgraph. As I suspected, it's done the same way it is on the "real thing," you remove the four screws on the back and the wire lugs can then be pulled from the case. He said getting the lugs back in correctly can be a hassle. So, in order to ensure that the OEM strap lasts as long as possible, I've ordered a SS deployant clasp from The Watch Prince. I've used their deployants on other watches (like my Hamilton Viewmatic) and they are first-rate.

That's a great idea. It never occurred to me that a deployant actually does put a lot less stress on the buckle ends of the strap. It should make the strap last a lot longer and those wire lugs look like they could be a lot of trouble during a strap change. Smart move.

If you use a good leather conditioner periodically on a strap equipped with a deployant, it should last practically forever. The constant wear and tear of bending the strap and putting the tang through the hole, and the wear caused from contact with the buckle, are what kill a strap.
If I owned any real Panerai, given what I see "genuine" straps cost for these things, everyone of them would be equipped with a deployant before I put it on my wrist.
