Be forewarned, what is stated below represents my opinion and should NOT be twisted to mean I support fakes, replicas or whatever you want to call watches with a brand name on the dial that were not made by the owner of that brand name. That's my definition of a fake.
Invicta, Alpha, ad infinitum are not fakes. This category have imitated watch designs of other brands. Of course, that is nothing new since there has been little or no innovation in the watch-making industry. After all, they still make movement parts from brass just like they did 200+ years ago. Look at recent comparison articles in some of the watch magazines and tell me there is much difference between dive watches. Not much design innovation there.
If you modify dlb's comment to mean those trying to sell fakes as real watches, I agree. Unfortunately, watches are not the only branded items being faked; so are leather goods, cosmetics, clothing, auto and airplane parts etc.
If you research fakes, you'll probably find out that China is full of them. Some China travelers say Guangzhou has a 'bazaar' with literally millions of fakes being sold in mall type shopping carts. The Chinese people are so poor, they have to make money any way they can. That doesn't justify making and selling fakes but explains why they are seen more frequently than before.
I know it is hard to think about it but please remember, if the deal sounds like it is too good to be true it is too good to be true. Don't try to scam a scammer.
Someone recently complained about a fake they bought on ebay from a listing that said the seller wasn't sure if the watch was real or not. He felt scammed out of the $100. he paid for a supposed $3,000. watch. When I asked him if he would have sent more money to the seller it the watch had been real, he got pi**ed off and swore at me. If you gamble, be prepared to lose.
I'll shut up now!
