It's finally here!
I must say I was a bit giddy going into the ADs and watching it come out of the safe. LOL!
Upon examining the piece I fully understand what all the hype surrounding the new GMT is all about. Rolex has created a worthy successor to the wonderfull 16710 and all the great GMT references that have gone before. Whether your preference is SS, TT, or all gold, the new GMT moves a storied reference to a new level.
This is one substantial watch! While not as heavy as it's gold counterpart the 116710 has a heft that is new to the GMT line. I've always liked the light weight of the 1675/16750 series, but I must say the balance struck between the enlarged case and the solid link bracelet makes this one of the most well balanced watches I've seen.
IMHO the dial is bold and easy to read while the ceramic bezel is not as "in your face" as I feared from some postings on various fora. The two blend quite well (at least for me).
The maxi-dial to my eye strikes the perfect balance with bezel making for an overall easily readable watch.
Mine came with the new style warranty card, and carries a Z serial number. As I went through the paperwork I noted the same instruction manual that came with the 16710--gotta love Rolex.
I have noticed it the short time I've had the watch, this is a watch that's all about light.
Depending on how the light hits the bezel can seem a rich black to a pewter color. The bracelet, although having polished center links can appear anywhere from brushed to very Daytona like depending on lighting conditions.
Of course the clasp is a work of art. I'm one that never had a problem with the old clasp, but indeed this is a great move by Rolex.
I must say this thing is a bit of a Bear to photograph--this will be a work in progress LOL!
Anyway a few "quick & dirties,
Still wearing it's "birth" plastic LOL!
No hologram on this one,
Interestingly, the bracelet came with five full links on the 6 o'clock side. I found this to be a great addition in that by removing one link from the 12 o'clock side (my normal custom) I was able to get a perfect fit.
Certainly this is the thickest GMT to come down the pike, thicker even the the 16760 "fat-lady" that previously held the record!
Gotta love maxi lume!!
The new clasp is fantastic!!
The cyclops, with it antreflective treatment is much easier to read at angles,
I find the watch sits quite well on the wrist, it part due to the caseback,
My "all the bits" shot,
And of course, what this watch is all about!
