I went to the only Panerai AD within a 100 mile radius today. The selection was poor and the customer service wasn't any better. I really like me some Panerai and could definitely see myself buying one - but not from this place.
He kept on telling me about how easy it was to swap the straps and that it had a Swiss made movement. Thanks. Also, they're as good as Patek Philippe and keep their value just as well. Really? Thanks for the superb financial advice, pal. I've seen Panerai in quite a few stores now, including two boutiques. Note to salesman: If your customer comes in asking for model numbers and tells you he knows about watches, don't treat him like an idiot or fib about your product and you may want to treat them like they have the capability to purchase a $6ooo to $25ooo watch.
Rant over on the mall salesman.
I tried on a PAM 111 because I really like the simplicity, manual wind and classic design. They did not have any of the other "main" watches on hand to try on. The 372 and 292 I've tried on recently seemed to feel much better. I really wish I had the dispensable funds to buy a 372 or 422 as they felt much better on the wrist.

I hate those experiences. Tourneau in Dallas has a moron working there that thinks he knows everything but he is a monumental idiot of Biblical proportions. Spoke to Peter the other day and he is "moments" away from being a Panerai AD. Having a great AD might be just what I need to add one to my collection.

Wow, that'd be great if Peter received AD status.

Nothing worse than getting excited about a watch, going in to an AD with great enthusiasm, then getting poorly treated. Fortunately, it hasn't happened to me often. Sometimes, when it does, and it's the only AD in town selling that brand, it really sucks. Hope you can find the PAM elsewhere. I'm pretty sure that in Canada only one AD is selected to represent Panerai in each city. That could be a thing of the past, though. Here in Vancouver we do have only one, and I think the same in Calgary. If you don't the THE one, then you are well and truly screwed. That will be wonderful for you guys when you get an AD who you know and trust! Cheers Carl

Hey guys. Just about to pull the trigger on a PAM 112. Decided to enhance the collection. I was going to go for another Rolex but decided to put that on hold for another few months.
Very simple and a great starter watch.
What do you guys think?
Ranuka.

I like the 112 but I like the 111 better. The one I want is the titanium version of the 111. I think that's a 175.
I like having the second hand.

Agreed. I like the 111 better. The titanium is the PAM177.

Sent from an iPhone 5 using ProBoards mmm I see what you mean with the second had. The PAM 177 is beautiful piece. Here is the deal. I have 4 grand that I can spend on a watch. btw already pulled the trigger on the 112. lol. Give me your thoughts Chip and team? Things I'm looking for. 1. Hold value for next couple of years. 2. essentially best bang for the buck. Ranuka.

It depends on what you paid. Most watches take an initial hit and tend to hover around the same price. If you bought right, you can easily own a piece that takes a large initial hit and never lose money on it.

Looking for another watch for under 4K (used) for holding value. I was thinking of Omega Broad Arrow but Planet Ocean Chronograph can be had for under 4K. Thanks Chip. What's next on your plate?

Bang for the buck is a tough topic considering all luxury watches are bad value. Lets face it, anything over a few hundred bucks is an emotional buy.
Bang for the buck is good if you happen to really like that model. If you buy the bang for the buck without paying attention to the emotional aspect... You lose.
Realistically speaking a 111 or 112 is a bad bang for the buck. It's a sub 100 dollar ancient third party movement in a case that's certainly not worth a few grand.
Do I like them? Yes. And I would own one in a heartbeat. I just don't think they are worth the asking price.
That nicely brings me back to my point; that are emotional purchases and the common sense part plays a secondary role.
Congratulations on your watch. It's a good one and I like it a lot. Thought about buying one. More than once.
