my dad left me a watch when he died recently.. all i know is he bought it in the early 1960's and its a damas. I wrote to damas to ask if they could provide any info.. they tell me its nothing to do with them, and was made by the swiss company Begueilin & Cie swiss watchmakers from the 1950's - 1960's. can anyone give me any more info for this watch as i dont know if its gold or rolled gold, if its worth anything or not. its 21 jewel incabloc and has what looks like a floating aeroplane as a second hand. never seen one like it and neither has anyone else?

Some casings are 9 karat gold and the stretch band are rolled gold. A little more higher than the average gold plating. The best way is to get it tested just to find out the percentage of gold that the watch have.

Welcome Jack. What a cool piece of family history to have. Sorry I can't help with dating or value as I am not familiar with that watch.

If you can provide photos of the movement as well as any case markings between the lugs, it will help. GLADIATOR is a horology historian and may be able to shed more light on this mystery for you.

OK it 17 Jewel and I guess from the 60s or 70s DAMAS is the registered trade name of Beguelin & Cie (company) Beguelin & Cie SA, Manufacturer Des Montres DAMAS et Tramalan Watch Co Company established 1903 Beguelin Des Montres Damas was listed in 1949 Company still listed in 1977 It a cool watch - like the seconds hand I need a picture of inside of case to see if its gold (which I doubt) Hope that helps ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS - Kathleen Pritchard Swiss Timepiece Makers

Thnx for the reply kathleen, its actually 21 jewels i know this it says it on the face, and i cannot see any markings to say if it is gold or not, i presume if not then its rolled gold, but its over 50 years old, and there is no base metal showing through, even where its scratched, its still gold coloured. It is a cool watch, my mother told me last time my dad had it cleaned, the guy offered him £200 for the watch? its never gonna be sold but it would be nice to know its approx value>> anyone.. >.?

It is a cool watch, my mother told me last time my dad had it cleaned, the guy offered him £200 for the watch? its never gonna be sold but it would be nice to know its approx value>> anyone.. >.? It's probably gold filled. I have a watch from 1907 and it has some scratches on it and you can tell that it was polished before. The base metal still does not show. Most of those cases were pretty well made and most carried a 30 years warranty on the gold part although most of them were able to easily surpass that. As far as value, it's not much. It's one of those things where the sentimental value far outweighs the monetary one. With the cool second hand, I would guess this watch is worth somewhere in the 200 dollars range and that's probably a very optimistic value. Without the cool second hand... probably 100 if in working order. Like you said, hang on to it. It's a great piece of family history and given the timeless design you will never be out of style if you wear that. I know I would wear it proudly!

Hi Jack just to let you know that I have the exact same watch it was my grandfathers and I've often wondered about it so this post has been a great help.
