Every Sunday before the week officially begins I always give my watch a proper cleaning It includes a small vibrating cleaner from eBay, diluted dish soap to mix with the warm water in the cleaner, watch spray and a toothbrush. Before purchasing this cleaner in 2010 all of my previous watches were cleaned 100% manually. Suspending parts of the watch into this device makes it a lot easier on me and after it gets rinsed and done over with watch spray to remove any soap residue (caused by the glycerin). The hollow center links always seem to trap dust / particles and anywhere the solution in the cleaner comes into contact with will have it removed. As you all can tell I'm obsessed with taking care of my watch as I want it (the bracelet and all) to last my entire life and beyond. When I took it for a service at the independent watch maker last year the jewellery store owner commented on how insanely clean my watch was After seeing stuff like this on Sheldon's site (minus4plus6.com) it makes me feel even better about the time invested in caring for this piece. The following was taken from his site, originally posted by "Alcan" on a forum as an example. The owner of the watch "Alcan" is a member here too I believe: " Alcan posted these Bob Ridley images of his 1630 DateJust* bracelet. These imags show the importance of examining the bracelet pins periodically as well as keeping the bracelet clean." It's insane to think a bit of dirt in hidden areas over the years can eat away at the metal like that, as if it were sandpaper! So after cleaning my watch earlier I decided to take a few shots with my phone to share here: Now here is a wrist shot from a few days back that sort of shows what gets trapped in the bracelet. On the crystal if you look closely you can see exactly what ends up in the cleaner after: The nice thing about the Explorer II and other fixed bezel watches is the fact you have one less area to worry about getting dirt out of. Those bezels can eventually become tough to rotate and should be rotated while rinsing with warm water from the sink while you clean it. What's your routine to keep your treasured timepiece clean?

I'm totally the other end of the scale. My watches get a go in the shower if WR & not on a leather strap. If I'm feeling really up for it, they get a wash under cold water & a gentle clean with a soft toothbrush. My Speedy on gets a clean with a cleaning cloth, but that watch only comes out every now & again. But as u may notice on some of my photos in the WRUW thread, it's the norm to see a little dirt on my watches

I'm lucky (I think) to need reading glasses, so I don't notice the smudges and little bits of dirt build up in the bracelets of my watches. When I take some of the pictures for the WRUW threads, if I see buildup in the bracelet, then it might be time to do some cleaning - assuming my schedule allows it. Then I'll scrub them down with warm water and Veraet cleaning solution. This seems to work out to 3-4 times a year.

But as u may notice on some of my photos in the WRUW thread, it's the norm to see a little dirt on my watches That's exactly what I used to do a few years back but once this obsession started the only times I shower in the watch would be if it was worn swimming. For the Speedmaster that's a good call. It may be 50 meters water resistant but with those chronograph pushers as they are I would be too afraid to risk it. I'm lucky (I think) to need reading glasses, so I don't notice the smudges and little bits of dirt build up in the bracelets of my watches. I can imagine how long it would take to do every watch in your collection weekly. Although solid center link bracelets can stretch too in time the possibility with the hollow ones seems even greater and that helped fuel this obsession with me. My watch is sized properly but does move around a little bit which I like.

Mine goes in to the shower with me when I remember.

Oh cool, another for the shower method. The thing I miss most about that was how every mourning all of the smudges or finger prints would be gone and when in a rush the time was right on my wrist.

Beautiful shots Rommel! I love the Explorer II, it's one of Rolex's most under appreciated watches.

The funny thing about the Explorer II with me is the fact it was never truly considered until this one I currently own came up for sale and could not be happier. Paired up with one of the more common pieces it's fixed bezel look makes for a refreshing change. Not to mention I totally love having the GMT feature.

That is pretty much inspirational.. Everyone should really be like you to take good care of the watches we have.

Thanks It feels so nice after it's cleaned. I never owned this ultrasonic cleaner with any other solid center link watches to compare how much stuff gets trapped in there vs a solid bracelet. The one thing that makes me want to try out the updated models and see how they wear over all compared to the discontinued pieces.

Does the bezel rotate on all models of the Expy's?

Sadly they don't but it would be very cool if they were like the Turn-o-Graph. Having a fixed bezel look that can rotate. After owning the watch for 3 years now it makes me wonder how it was overlooked by me (and by so many others) for so long over the Submariner / GMT. The only down side to this piece is the fact the GMT feature is so much fun to have, use and set it makes me want another. With my dive watches all they did was tell the time (as they should) and date. After many years of that it was like this opened the door to a new world for me. The guy I bought it from sold his Yacht-Master to get the 116710 LN GMT Master II and said the same thing, how he absolutely loves the feature and this Explorer II is to blame
