OK I found a pic of the one I mentioned earlier in the thread. Mine was a 16710 GMT-II, bought new from an AD here in Switzerland. The really nice part was that it came from a Rolex supplier in the ski resort I used to enjoy throughout my childhood. I was 32 when I bought the watch, as I said before. Here is a shot of me wearing it about a year later - the only pic I have of it now.

I got my first Rolex at 21 years old. was a preowned 18k yellow gold datejust. i bought a aftermarket 18k diamond band and bezel for it. I'm now 27 and bought a preowned yellow gold president daydate. I would love to own a brand new president but i can't afford to spend that much on a watch. I really shouldn't of even got my second rolex at 27 because I have a child on the way and I'm far from financially secure when I bought my first one I was young and had no one to look out for but myself and now I got a family. Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on soon being a father too, by the way! The good thing is with these watches, if you buy them right you can easily re sell it and get back most if not all of what you paid for it pre owned. This way at least you have one Rolex to use if you did want to part with one for now and delay getting another one. I probably answered this already. My first one was at 30, the EXP II and my second one, the LV, was at 35. I still have them both. Nice! That's right, the Explorer II. What was it that made you pick that one as your first as well would you say? My first Rolex was and still is a 1985 GMT. Still have the watch. Bought in the US VI. Ah, you still have the spider dial! It's amazing how Rolex stands the test of time and even get better with age (in my opinion). Age 36 . . . . brand new 16610 That one came VERY close to being my first Rolex as well. It's hard not to appreciate or even want the 16610 Submariner. OK I found a pic of the one I mentioned earlier in the thread. Mine was a 16710 GMT-II, bought new from an AD here in Switzerland. Little things like how it is connected to the ski resort you enjoyed only add to the story behind the watch and your appreciation of it. I was OLD, very very OLD! Oh, and it was an Oyster Date with a blue/grey dial and gold stick markers. I think it's my sig pic....... That's ok, what matters is the fact you obtained the watch you wanted and enjoyed it which I know for a fact you did!

1984 when I turned 29. I got a GMT because that's what Magnum, PI wore. Later I got a circa 1992, 16613 to give to my son when he graduates Cal Poly with his Physics and Astrophysics degrees next year. That the watch is from his birth year so I think that's kinda cool.
He thought he was getting the 16710 when he graduated. Once he found out he was getting a Bluesy, he was pretty excited about it. One night we went to the movies and I was wearing the Bluesy. When he saw I was wearing it, he asked, "Is that the Rolex, my Rolex?" I told him it was but if he wanted it right away, I'd give it to him then and he could foot the $600 for the needed service. He told me he could wait for it. Smart kid.
Now it's time to start saving for a circa 1996 Yachtmaster for my daughter's college graduation around 2018.

Can not think of a cooler more useful graduation present. Each glance at the wrist will be a reminder of the family history, his hard work in school and what the brand represents. A crown for every achievement, indeed! Congratulations in advance to your son (and daughter)! Once I heard the program he's in, I figured as much Didn't take him long to realize it's better for him if you pick up the tab for that service The Yachtmaster will be IDEAL for your daughter. Those watches look very nice on females be it the full size one or not. The hunt will be part of the fun for you! I got my first Rolex at 30 and my second one at 35. My third one at 37 and 9 months. Sent from my iPhone 5s using Tapatalk Pro The decade of Rolex watches for Chip! I hope to have things unfold similarly for me The sad thing is, after getting the GMT it will be hard for me to want any of the other updated models along with my Explorer II.
