hi joe is this watch rare because i cant find out much about the brand dogma . they produced watches for germany in ww2 but the last reference to the company is a court case in 1966 about the trademark. the only other one i can find similar has a light dial . so if i cant even find a picture of this watch would i be classed as rare and worth while fixing because i have no idea roughly this would be worth as is or repaired thanks again

Welcome to the forum.
One thing about rarity is that it doesn't always translate into monetary value.
If the watch has sentimental value, it would be worth fixing. If it doesn't, I'd just let it be.

Welcome to the forum. It's not a highly sought after brand and likely has little monetary value, but like Chip said, if its a family piece, all that can change.

I have a Dogma watch that belonged to my father-in-law, I had it restored because it had great sentimental value for my wife, the watch is probably worth less that the leather band I bought for it but it was all about restoring a watch that belonged to my wife's father who passed away from Cancer in 2003. If it has sentimental value then restore it, if not then move on. Welcome to the forum.

Hi There and welcome to the forum.
I knew Steve (Niko) would chip in as he has one of this brands watches as he explained. The movement in this one was made between 1969-78 and the case style supports that age I think.
The Dogma WW2 chrono's are going for around the $350 mark and that would be the higher end of the price scale for them. This is a bit different though and you could probably pick something like this up for around the $170 mark.
Dogma was a brand name of Arthur Dorsaz and Company of La Chaux de Fonds. Its not a particularly valuable watch but it looks lovely and now you have replaced the hand and crystal put that on a nice rally strap and you have a lovely watch to wear.
To put it in modern terms if this was made now it would be at the Tissot end of the spectrum, good, reliable Swiss watch with excellent value for money.
Its got a good quality movement which derivations of with decoration can be seen in much more expensive watches.
What you have is a nice Swiss watch from a brand that is no longer here. I have a couple of watches that the brands have now become defunct. They are great ways to get watches with nice movements that can be found in much more expensive watches but at much cheaper prices.
I actually like the mystery of these defunct brands and what is contained within. You can get lucky as we have and find good quality movements and end up with a watch that punches well above its weight.
I would say its worth having that one serviced. Sure, the cost would probably be the same as what the watch is worth but nice movements like that deserve to be kept alive I think and these defunct brands I feel have a very important place in Swiss watch history.
Its these defunct brands that were the meat and potatoes of the industry back then. They got movement makers like Valjoux into the place they are now, admittedly swallowed by ETA but still with a rich heritage and highly sought after as movements of choice in the nicer modern watches.

Welcome to the forum. It's obvious that you have a good feeling for watches, so I hope you stick around and participate. Before you know it you'll be giving advice out to the newby WIS's.
