This is one watch that really has a unique personality. When my boss saw it today, she said "It looks like an old watch, but it looks new!" . The dial is really difficult to describe. It is Sterling Silver, but has more of an off-white look to it, as though it has already developed it's own patina. It looks like a piece that already has a lot of stories to tell.
It's not a small watch at 42mm, and considering that it has a very narrow bezel, it does not wear too big. It is exactly the size that it should be. I absolutely love watches having a case size which exactly accommodates the movement. The ETA 6398 movement, to which I have a special attachment: it is the movement that I disassembled and assembled at the Omega Boutique Watchmaker Event in October. Also made by someone we know and respect, and made here in Canada. It just can't get any better! The icing on the cake is that it won't be in any AD, nor will I likely see anything like it in the wild. This watch has credentials that no amount of money can buy. There is more technical info on Al's website, so I won't go into more detail about that:

I love the onion crown, and the winding is silky smooth. The real heat blued Brequet style hands are lovely, and even the small seconds hand is the same style. I love the long lugs with curved ends, they seem to hug the wrist. An added bonus is having the screwed pins which hold the strap in place. Of course, the movement is a joy to behold. Normally, I'm not a big fan of exhibition casebacks, but in this case I wouldn't have it any other way.
Beautiful custom-made wooden case, with a rich dark brown soft lining, and a lovely pen with the same wood to match. The strap is very soft and supple for a thick strap. It will be fun to change straps on this watch with the lugs such as they are, but I don't think I will be doing that for a long time, this strap suits it so well. The case is all polished, and I am so glad it's that way. I think somehow that brushed or combination brushed/polished would not suit as well.
Well, I hope that these pics somehow do the watch justice:
To Al: I am so grateful to have the privilege of wearing this fine watch!
Cheers,
Carl
