Kat, I think the only problem would be the movement. From what I can see this movement fills the case. Seeing as he custom makes these though it might very well be worth asking. I wish you lived close by, you could try mine on. I won't lie, it does wear big because the dial fills the case as well.but it feels small on the wrist comfort wise if that makes sense?

Anyhow that did work out, nothing would be more special than a CUSTOM made watch. How cool would it be if he was in fact able to source a smaller movement, make the case etc a bit smaller and complete this project? Besides Meteorite and mother of pearl, that has to truly be one of the nicest dials I've seen.

Thats true, I hope Al can do something for Kat. I would imagine the dial's come in various diameters (just a guess) so to fit it in a smaller case with a different movement, that would truly be a one off!
The other thing about this dial is the beauty in the simplicity of its execution. It is so clear and clean to read.

In terms of fabrication, I'm certain it can be made smaller. I guess it would be more a matter of if he can fit it into his schedule to do so right now with the other things he could be working on. Something like this is worth the wait though because it will have such a unique story behind it. Al is about 1 hour and a bit's drive west of me, maybe some day I'll end up with one of these once my main collection is complete. My goal is 1 more Rolex (the GMT) and then get back to exploring other brands as well as there's so much more for the money out there for those who enjoy them.

Managed to do a clearer image of the crown, just beautiful. I keep looking at this watch and marvelling at the level of attention to detail Al has gone to with it! It will be interesting to hear what Al says about making a one off. I bet it can be done, its just as you say, time. Which GMT do you want to get Rommel? I still love how John Mayer describes his in this video..

I shall inquire, after I replenish my watch funds, since I have been on a roll lately. The Sinn, with the added SS OEM bracelet, is almost 3 big ones. No such thing as a discount on a new Sinn. I dropped 2 large on my Rolex, which is definitely a keeper, especially at that price and condition, and it was only in November, that I picked up the Stowa, which wasn't quite so pricey, but not inexpensive either. Then, of course, there are the frugals that I've gotten lately, which add up pretty quickly, too. I don't know how you guys afford the brand new Subs, APs, etc. I'm not complaining, though. I like the watches I've chosen, of late. Anyone need a Seiko, or three? OM is off limits, though...... Kat

It is addictive Kat. I just lost by $2 a beautiful 1846 Fusee pocket watch that was made in the city I went to college in the UK!

I still love how John Mayer describes his in this video.. That onion crown certainly displays the details far better up close! It must be so easy to turn and has that great vintage appeal. Thanks for sharing that video! He too had the Explorer II as his first "great" piece. Not to mention loves the GMT function as well. To me it makes those watches even more interesting and has many uses for everyday life compared to the crazy depth rating (unless the person is a commercial diver). I want a 116710 LN, there's no doubt in my mind it's my ideal watch to wear for life along with the Explorer II. I shall inquire, after I replenish my watch funds, since I have been on a roll lately. It's going to be a while before I get the other watch I REALLY want. Start some for sale ads x2, for sure list them for sale if Al says he can and will be able to do this piece for you. It speeds up the process and makes it easier to justify the added expense. If it will work out just remind yourself of how stunning the dial is and the fact it will be CUSTOM made, for YOU! Even if he can't do it right away, it's well worth the consideration for later.

Not mine, Roger, but I'm thinking about it.. As much as I like it, I find it a bit top heavy, even though it's Titanium. Also, this is my home forum. I rarely post anywhere else, anymore. Also, I'm hesitant to sell on forums that I frequent. I don't like mixing business with pleasure, so, almost always, use ebay...... Kat

KatI was unsure since I figured if you were listing it elsewhere on a forum, you'd list it here too. The seller's ID was initials starting with a "k" so I thought it was an odd coincidence. Now that you mention it, I do recall that you use e-bay. I can't do that with the fees they charge between selling and paypal - it's too much off the top.

I got such a good deal on this one, I could probably make out on the deal, but I'm still undecided. Since I did just get it, and it is brand new, maybe I should list it here. I just hate the idea of someone I consider a friend, possibly being disappointed, for some reason....

I just ask them to pay for shipping unless I misrepresented the watch condition.

Once you rate the condition accurately and take good pictures of the watch and accessories (box etc) you should have no problems, Kat! Friends or not, once the piece is as described the recipient being unhappy over all will more less be their lack of research prior to purchase. Totally get your concern though and in the end you must do what's best for you / what you feel better doing. On all my years using the forums I can say it's something I never heard happen often, if at all
